Proto:Pokémon Emerald
This article is a work in progress. ...Well, all the articles here are, in a way. But this one moreso, and the article may contain incomplete information and editor's notes. |

This page details one or more prototype versions of Pokémon Emerald.
On May 18th, 2020, a debug version of Pokémon Emerald was leaked. This build is the same as the retail version of Pokémon Emerald in Japan, but with a large amount of debug features accessible.

General Info
See also: Proto:Pokémon Ruby and Sapphire
This build shares many debug features with the German Ruby Debug Version as well as the FireRed and LeafGreen Debugs. Some features appear to be nonfunctional, either because their function was removed at some point or they require external devices that cannot be emulated.
For most menus, the directional pad is used to navigate, while A and B are either used to increment, or to accept and cancel. L and R are often used to increment by 10. Start and Select have different features depending on where you are.
The debug features are often buggy and can result in softlocks or crashes. Many features will also make permanent changes to the save file, and two of the options in the Test Menu result in the save being deleted or corrupted. That being said, it is highly advised that save states are used and that the save file is backed up.
Music
To do: Add the rest of the build's music. |
Azalea Town
A version of Azalea Town can be found in this prototype, but it's distinct from the version found in Pokémon FireRed & LeafGreen due to having a noticeably different tempo. This may be taken directly from Pokémon Gold & Silver since it has 4 tracks, which matches up with the GB PSG's sound channel. It's very possible that the FireRed & LeafGreen versions used this as a base.
Team Rocket Radio Tower Takeover
Previously discovered in Pokémon Ruby & Sapphire as song index 467. However, in Go Ichinose's compile configuration files, it blanks all instruments to Program 21, which means that the version ripped from the game uses the accordion for all instruments (barring percussion). This is identical in terms of all notes and controller data, but has actual proper instruments assigned to it.
Trainers' Eyes Meet (Boy 1)
Discovered in a backup folder among the sound files for the game. A version of Trainers' Eyes Meet (Boy 1) from Pokémon Gold & Silver. This doesn't seem to be a direct port from Pokémon Gold & Silver as the arrangement differs. It's also likely unfinished as its MIDI file has several empty instrument tracks. Its exact purpose and time created is unknown but it's likely that it was a sound test.
