Mega Man Battle Network 5: Double Team DS
Mega Man Battle Network 5: Double Team DS |
---|
Also known as: Rockman EXE 5 DS: Twin Leaders (JP) This game has unused animations. |
To do: Leftovers of the Crossover and Operation Battle systems. |
Mega Man Battle Network 5: Double Team DS is a port of Mega Man Battle Network 5: Team Colonel and Team ProtoMan. Both versions are available on the same cart with additional features not present in the originals.

Animations
It's no secret the game chooses to keep its 3D models oddly stiff, but in this video, several unused animations of the 3D models in the game are revealed.
MegaMan normally has the idle, nodding, and arm animations. However, another animation shows him crouching from the idle animation. It is worth noting that this animation closely resembles the overworld sprite version. ProtoMan and Colonel have comparable animations and would suggest the 3D model may have mimicked what was going on in the map in that regard. However, the 3D model isn't shown when in the Cyberworld which may explain why those animations are unused.
The MegaMan model also features strange "punched" animations where it seems like he is being punched from all sides before returning to idle. Judging by the reaction, it may be possible the player would have been allowed to continually tap Mega Man to create this reaction, as a similar feature is found in Mega Man Star Force. ProtoMan and Colonel have entirely different animations which wouldn't seem to fit in any parts of the game.
Textures
There are textures for MegaMan's facial expressions. Eye and mouth combinations can be combined using commands in the text. However, the game can't and never uses the mouth opening textures. Presumably, these would have been used for the speaking lines when the 3D model is present and was too difficult to implement. The frowning texture is used, but can be difficult to notice at native resolution.
Unused Text
Compilation Text
Some of the text from the game's code can be found in plain text in the game. Only the touch screen menus have some leftover text because it was made after porting the game.

Regional Differences
To do: Other differences between NA and European versions, like button displays, and Euro using the Japanese Unison button instead of Unite. |
Opening Song
The Japanese version uses Be Somewhere (by Buzy), the opening theme from the Rockman.EXE Stream anime and the movie "Rockman.EXE: Program of Light and Dark." However, the international versions use a clip from "THEME OF ROCKMAN EXE ~TGS 2002 MIX~".

Compared to the other games in the series, this one probably had some of the least changes between versions. Colors were changed to lighter shades, in particular the blue used in the background. This was also the first time since Mega Man Battle Network 3 that the European title screen is exactly the same as the North American one.
Voice Clips
To do:

Japan/International | German |

File:MegaManBattleNetwork5DS NapalmMan2.oggLet's do it, NapalmMan! | Let's do it, MoltanicMan! |

File:MegaManBattleNetwork5DS NapalmMan5.oggChaos Unison! Napalm Chaos! | Chaos Unison! Moltanic Chaos! |
In the German language setting, the game refers to NapalmMan as MoltanicMan instead (the name of NapalmMan in the English dub of MegaMan NT Warrior), so because of that, several of Lan's voice clips were changed to reflect the different name. Those voice clips are technically present in all versions of the game (their files names having a "_EU" suffix), but are only used in the German language setting and nowhere else.
Text Font
The European version uses a different text font than the American version.

Queen Bohemia Hint
To do: Add other langauges and their translations. |
The rather notorious hint for the Queen Bohemia's engine room was improved... in the English European version; the Italian version makes even less sense.

Slot-In Bonuses
To do: Check for the Liberate Mission Search Man & Number Man Dominant Chip power-ups and the below mission's Japanese Mr. Prog text given by Rockman.EXE 4.5 as well. |
In the international versions, the Rockman.EXE 4.5 Battle Theme cannot be heard without cheats because that game was only released in Japan (and the GBA cart must be from the same region as the NDS cart).
EXE 4.5 unlocks a mission given to you by a golden Mr. Prog on Lan's HP. It can be unlocked with this Action Replay cheat on both USA and EUR versions:

This can also simulate the 4.5 game being slot-in:

Note: The Spanish version literally translates the game name as “Batalla de Red 4.5”.
Additionally, only the JP version has the header code to slot-in with the third Boktai game, Shin Bokura no Taiyou: Gyakushuu no Sabata, another Japan-exclusive, which gives the Sol Cross. Players outside of this country will instead require Boktai 2 for it.
Translation Issues
To do: The Spanish translation has plenty of other mistranslations. Also, check whether or not the other European localisations have as many issues. |
This title is the only in the franchise to be localised in European languages. Unfortunately, the European Spanish version is full of mistranslations. This is a particularly hilarious example from the Chivalry NaviCust program:
Again, the Spanish localisation has encoding issues in some dialogues, causing question marks to appear instead of special characters (like accented letters).
Spanish |
---|
Expected: Lan, ¿deberíamos huir? |
A common issue across the Spanish localisation is that some female characters refer to themselves as male, as in the following example:
Spanish |
---|
Expected: ¡Sí, y yo también estaré lista… |
Map Changes
Like the Game Boy Advance version, the Last Supper painting inside Queen Bohemia was changed to a painting showing fireworks in the Team Colonel version. Other map changes were not applied to the DS version, being the same as the Japanese version.
