Mega Man 11
Mega Man 11 |
---|
Also known as: Rockman 11: Unmei no Haguruma!! (JP, translated as "Rockman 11: Gears of Fate!!") This game has unused graphics. This game has a prerelease article |
It's Mega Man's 11th outing, in full 3D! It would be unfair to call this one "Mighty No. 9 + 2", because this game is actually good.

Unused Graphics
To do: More graphics, including some early enemy textures. |
An unused version of Mega Man's face, intended for the Stage Select screen. His skin is colored peach here, implying the Stage Select was originally going to be a little more like previous games.
Placeholder | Final |
---|---|
Placeholder icons for microchips. They're labelled "reserved 1" through "reserved 4".
Three placeholder block textures in different colors. Each one says "temporary".
...But what does it mean? This game has text or audio that needs to be translated. If you are fluent with this language, please read our translation guidelines and then submit a translation! |
Unused textures associated with the titlescreen. The first one says "gear lamp", and the second one says "mosaic".
Three versions of what appears to be a cropped, in-development screenshot. Mega Man's model is textured differently from his final look, and there are hand-drawn arrows pointing to parts of the environment. The smaller versions are darker but feature light elements.
A full set of unused enemy icons. Some of the designs are different from their final counterparts. These are stored in the "special" UI set, which covers bonus aspects of the game such as the Challenges, Gallery, and Achievements. Robot Masters and some mid-bosses only have text placeholders. In order, the text placeholders read as follows:
ブロックマン, アシッドマン, ブラストマン, ヒューズマン, ラバーマン, トーチマン, パイルマン, ツンドラマン, イエローデビル Mk.III, モンバーン, ワイリーマシン11号 (第1形態), ワイリーマシン11号 (第2形態), 空き, 空き, 空き, 空き.
In English, these names are:
Block Man, Acid Man, Blast Man, Fuse Man, Rubber (Bounce) Man, Torch Man, Pile (Impact) Man, Tundra Man, Yellow Devil MK-III, Mawverne, Wily Machine 11 (V1), Wily Machine 11 (V2), Empty, Empty, Empty, Empty.
Of note, similar images were later used for Christmas wallpapers in Capcom's site.
Texture Oddities
A cute friend is hidden in this wall texture. There's usually a computer in front of it, so it's happy to see you!
Dr. Light's eye texture contains two different designs. The top two are used, while the bottom set goes unused.
There's an eye outline on Roll's face texture that isn't visible in-game.
This image of Acid Man is used for his short appearances in the background parts of his stage. In-game, only a silhouette can be seen. The actual image has a lot more detail, however. The original image is quite dark, so the second image is a modified version for better visibility.
Unused Audio
English | Japan |
---|---|
In both the English and Japanese versions of this game, there are voice lines where Mega Man says the title of this game in the same enthusiastic manner as heard in 3rd voice sample in this game site as he did in Mega Man 8 and Mega Man: Powered Up. However, unlike these both games, where Mega Man says the title explicitly, this does not occur in it. This mirrors the approach taken in the Japanese version, where even in the English dub, Mega Man does not say the title.
Regional Differences
As a change of pace, the title and removal of a subtitle weren't the only things to change when the game was brought from Japan. Most of these changes are reverted if you set the game language to Japanese, even for the international releases.
Menus
Japan | International |
---|---|
The 30th Anniversary screen which appears after the Capcom logo displays "Rockman" or "Mega Man" depending on the region.
Japan | International |
---|---|
As mentioned earlier and elsewhere, the title was changed and the subtitle - in this case, "Unmei no Haguruma!!"/"Gears of Fate!!" - was lost in localization.
Japan | International |
---|---|
The main menu in the overseas versions of the game are a little clearer than their Japanese counterparts.
Japan | International |
---|---|
The difficulty names are also fairly less confusing in localization.
Japan | International |
---|---|
"Ranking" became "Leaderboard" and "Achievements" became "Records" during localization, likely to avoid conflict with Xbox/Steam achievements.
Japan | International |
---|---|
The default weapon's name changed to reflect its user's localized name, and "Pile Drive" gained an additional letter R, overseas.
Boss Characters
Japan | International |
---|---|
When the game was localized, two boss characters received name changes. This might have been due to some questionable meanings to the original name-words.
Japan | International |
---|---|
These changed names also apply to the boss introduction screens... which have Japanese subtitles, in the Japanese release!
Other Changes
- As shown in the previous screenshots, the Japanese version uses an all-caps font for English/rōmaji words while other versions of the game use a mix of upper-and-lowercase letters. This was probably done as reference to the previous Mega Man games on the NES and SNES where Japanese characters were limited.
- There's a translation error where Fuse Man's eel is a rabbit in the English version, since the Japanese words for eel (unagi) and rabbit (usagi) are nearly identical.
