Ms. Pac-Man is released in arcades by Midway, becoming a smash success arguably big enough to rival her husband's. The NEC PC-98, Commodore 64, and ZX Spectrum all become very successful on the computer side. On a more grim note, E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial and a port of Pac-Man are released for the Atari 2600, which have become some of the most maligned games ever and are considered part of the cause for the 1983 video game crash. A slew of consoles are also released in North America, further saturating an already-crowded video game market there.
