Back in 2000. French conglomerate Vivendi bought Universal Studios along with its theme parks, music and game publishing branches when it merged with its then-parent company, Canadian alcohol beverage company Seagram's with the liquor division being spun-off to Diageo. VU sold Vivendi Universal Entertainment to NBC in 2004 to form NBC Universal but kept the gaming branch with the VU entities dropping the "Universal" name two years later until 2008, when it merged with Activision to form Activision Blizzard. Vivendi would maintain a stake in the company until 2013.
