This is a sub-page of Proto:Phantasy Star IV: The End of the Millennium.
Scenic Ryuon, conveniently located north of Raja Temple, is home to the most renowned bar on Dezolis. Come on in and have a drink of non-specific beverage, then catch up on the latest news from Gyuna, the bartender who may or may not have an accent.

The owner of the bar is named Gyuna and he knows the most about the situation around these parts. If you want to know something that's where you should go.
Translation Notes
Oh geeze. So in the Japanese version the Dezolisian calls Gyuna "事情通" (Jijoutsuu) meaning an expert in the background of a certain situation...
May Script
Two squared is... the situation.
Final Script
Two fists is... the best situation!
Translation Notes
...and then Raja says "2の自乗…ジジョウツー!", which is meant to be read as "tsuu no jijou...jijoutsuu!", a bit of wordplay that more or less translates to the May dialogue.
Looks like the editors couldn't think of a good pun here for later drafts...

What with this sudden snow storm, the ability to travel in and out of town tends to be unreliable. There seems to be many places where the roads are obstructed by ice!

Final Script
What with this snow storm, the ability to travel in and out of town is unreliable.
There are many places where the roads are obstructed by ice!

Translation Notes
Once Raja leaves the party, all versions revert to the May script.
May Script
I don't know which I hate more you are this snow!
August Script
Ice obstructions. Sounds pretty ...bothersome.
Final Script
On winter nights, we huddle so tight, saying ice is really nice... How's that!?
Translation Notes
So in the Japanese version, Raja says that he's already fed up with the snowstorm (雪嵐はもうコオリゴリじゃの!), but he combines korigori (Being fed up with something) with koori (ice). So it's another bad pun. Not sure what the May and August English drafts are going for here.

Translation Notes
You may notice at this point that Gyuna doesn't actually have an accent. In the Japanese script of Phantasy Star II, Dezolisians occasionally ended their sentences with the suffix -zura - this is used in the Nagano–Yamanashi–Shizuoka prefectures in Japan and seems to be perceived as a rural dialect. The English version of PSII made an attempt to localize this by having the Dezolisians say things like "dern" and "ain't.", and use double negatives.
Gyuna is the only Dezolisian in Phantasy Star IV that still uses the -zura suffix, and he uses it at the end of almost every sentence. The English version makes no attempt to preserve this, so he sounds no different than the other Dezolisians.
