Hmmm...
To do:
Investigate the S Lite release should it be found

DanceDanceRevolution S was the dancing game series' first outing into modern mobile phone hardware.

NOTE: Most of this content applies to the iOS release. Some of it can still be found in the Android release, where it is accordingly specified.

Unused Graphics

The unused file t_21_sound_name.pvr contains earlier variations of some of the songs' name tags.

  • It seems the original version of A Geisha's Dream was going to be used rather than a new remix.
  • The new songs SAY IT AGAIN and Rescue Me use earlier titles (Love song and You Passed Me By) and artist strings (NAOKI and EUROBEAT MASTERS).

Unused Charts

The following songs contain unused chart slots within their respective files. Songs marked with a ※ are also present in the Android release.

Unused Chart File

The file hana_s.ssq, which is associated with the song Hana ranman -Flowers-, is not referenced by the game's executable. Given the simplicity of the charts, all of them lacking jumps and freeze arrows, it's likely that they were planned to be used in Shake Mode.

Revisional Differences

During unknown points, several updates were released to the game. This section details changes between two archived versions, v1.0.3 and v1.1.5.

Interface

  • The Shake Mode thumbnail in the main menu, as well as the mode's instructions, no longer display an iPhone, with the former completely removing it, and the latter only editing the images of the phone itself to make it look more generic.
v1.0.3 v1.1.5

Ddrs-shakeinstold.png Ddrs-shakeinstnew.png
  • The name graphic of the character Louis-CONCENT III was originally 4 pixels wider than the sprite size of the other character names in v1.0.3, which resulted in it being slightly cut off on the right, and was also misspelled as Louis-CONSENT III. Both of these issues have since been corrected.
v1.0.3 v1.1.5

  • When playing Normal courses, the indicator on the top left of the screen misspelled Normal as Nomal, which has since been corrected.

Songs

  • The song Hana ranman -Flowers- received higher-quality audio, which has a 128kbps bitrate instead of 96kbps.
  • The songs SAY IT AGAIN and Rescue Me received updated banners, which swap the artist "featuring" order. It's important to note that NAOKI was always the "main" artist in the game's text strings, as well as in the song selection menu tags.
