Unused Graphics
NOTE: None of the graphics listed below have proper filenames; the names are given based on the order in which they are present in IMAGE.DAT.
Unused Song Leftovers
Throughout the game's archives are leftover graphics for several songs that are normally unplayable. Save for a single song, character data will not be covered here.
Atsushi Shindo
Quite notably, all of Atsushi Shindo's songs that appeared in the pop'n music arcade titles have their backgrounds stored within the archives, long after they had been removed due to plagiarism allegations against their composer. They also have artist tags (save for Kimi ga suki da yo ~mamotte mamotte ageru kara) present in File 56, though they have been blanked out.
File 439 - Kimi ga suki da yo ~mamotte mamotte ageru kara...Folky Version
File 441 - Kimi ga suki da yo ~mamotte mamotte ageru kara / File 455 - SLOW DOWN
File 452 - Kimi wo kowashitai (POWER FOLK 2 LIVE)
File 457 - Dynamic! Atomic! S.C.B.G. ~ver.1~
File 459 - Nervous breakdown ~type zero~
Title Tags Only
There is a single odd song within the title tag graphics within File 54. The song in question is BREAK DOWN!, which was, at the time, available through the ee'MALL service in arcades, and did not appear in any home releases yet.
Artist Tags Only
Unused songs that only have artist tag data remaining in the data. All of the following are found in File 56.
Surechigau futari Millenium mix
Artist and Genre Tags Only
Unused songs that only have artist (File 56) and genre (File 5) tags. Notably, they were all unlockable songs in the game's original arcade release.
"Meitantei Conan" main theme
This song, which made its first appearance in pop'n music 12 Iroha 's original arcade release, does not appear in this port. Despite this, it still has related graphic files within the data, the most of any other unused song. This also includes icons for its character, an exclusive variation of Nyami.
Unused Characters
There's also files for five unused characters:
LISA [5]
This character is known to have appeared in three songs: Dounacchattatte from pop'n music 5, Shiritori from pop'n music 8, and brave! from the ee'MALL service. The latter appeared in the previous home release, so this is likely to just be holdover data from there. Contains complete data.
Poet [4]
This character is known to have appeared in two songs: Over The Rainbow from pop'n music 4, and Sorekara from the PlayStation release of pop'n music 5. Only contains icon and in-game sprite data.
Bronson [9]
Only contains portrait data for the character's 2P palette, found at File 156. At the time, it was used by the ee'MALL song Baribari boogie ~namida no fruit punch~.
YUKI [4]
Only contains portrait data for the character's 2P palette, found at File 245. As this palette is not known to have been used by any song, its presence is a mystery.
Taro&Okon [4]
This character is known to have been used in a single song: Ai kotoba from pop'n music 4. Only icon data exists, found at File 4.
Enjoy Mode Jackets
The archive that contains the jackets that would normally be seen in the game's Enjoy Mode, File 53, has many graphics for unseen songs. They are likely leftovers from the game's arcade release, given the presence of some songs that never appeared in any home release.
Tokyo Game Show 2005 Leftovers
Two leftover graphics from a build of the game shown at the Tokyo Game Show 2005 event can still be found unused.
File 8
This graphic would be displayed in the title screen.
File 212
This graphic is stored alongside the character portraits.
More Arcade Leftovers
More leftovers from the game's arcade release.
Title Screen
These graphics can be found in File 8.
NET Taisen Leftovers
While the NET Taisen Mode was reworked into Taisen Mode for this release, assets for the original can still be found within the archives.
File 37
Placeholder Background
File 549 contains a placeholder background, which is also seen in the home release of pop'n music 11.
Unused Text
Found at offset 0xF6D10 of the game's executable is a music comment string meant to be used as a placeholder.
