Hmmm...
To do:
  • The Japanese version has data for 2P Challenge charts, which should be unused.
  • sndarc_us.brsar contains a folder named MARIO with a sequenced music file named KART, possibly a Wii SDK leftover?

A reboot of the pop'n music series for the Wii system, complete with finicky motion controls and a cheesy song list. It's also one of the only entries in the series to be released overseas.

Unused Songs

Within the American release of the game are several unused songs, which all have music and chart data. Note that the audio for the licensed tracks is not included in the download links below due to copyright concerns; there is only converted chart data.

ID 0101 (Blue bird)

A cover of the song by Ikimono-gakari, known for being used as the third opening theme of the NARUTO Shippuuden anime series. This is a leftover from the Japanese release.

  • Music: snd\us\strm\0101_bluebird_bt.brstm
  • Preview Audio: snd\us\strm\0101_bluebird_pre.brstm

ID 0172 (MAGICAL VOICE SHOWER)

A song by Ucchies. Unlike all other songs listed here, this is a returning Konami original, first appearing in pop'n music 12 Iroha. It was likely removed due to licensing complications with JASRAC, as the artist's works are managed by them.

Unused Sounds

The directory snd\jp\strm in the Japanese release, which contains the game's music files, also has several unused announcer files. Curiously, they come from the arcade installment pop'n music 15 ADVENTURE.

There's also two more announcer sounds from the arcade releases in WSD\SE\SD within snd\jp\sndarc.brsar (JP) / snd\us\sndarc_us.brsar (US). The first one is the cheering sound heard in many pop'n music installments in the song splash screen. The second one is the "Are you ready?" soundbite, heard just before starting a song, from pop'n music 16 PARTY.

Regional Differences

Overall

  • The European release lacks support for downloadable content.
  • While the Japanese release has unique background tracks for the menus and the title screen, the American and European versions replace them with cuts of SHAKE'N SWING'N POP'N MUSIC!, which is also used as the credits theme.

In the American and European version of the game, Poet is depicted without her halo or angel wings, most likely because of its reference towards religion. Despite being removed, they both are present within her texture files.
