Welcome

Hi! Welcome to The Cutting Room Floor! Here are a few things you should know as you add content:

  • The "Image was riped from" text on images are produced by templates. See Category:Image templates for more.
  • Each page begins with a breakout box that displays info about the game as well as the type of content therein. Template:Bob is the template that makes one; check any page source for examples.
  • You've probably already noticed that some articles have the console type in the article title. The general rule on TCRF is that each port of a game gets its own article, and that the console name is only added to the page title if there are multiple versions of a game with the same title.

Happy contributing! - Andlabs 18:24, 23 June 2012 (EDT)

Thanks! I'm not too well versed when it comes to wiki stuff. I've wanted to add categories to a game, but I don't see where I can add that to specify when a game belongs to a specific console. ReyVGM 18:31, 23 June 2012 (EDT)

Unlike some other wikis, this wiki does that automatically via the Bob template. - Andlabs 18:32, 23 June 2012 (EDT)
You might also want to include the title screen for the games (this is why bobscreen exists). The noscreen part of the bob is only used for when the game has nothing resembling a title screen (such as an early prototype of an unreleased game.) --From: divingkataetheweirdo 21:47, 23 June 2012 (EDT)

I dunno what your beef with nensondubois is, but please don't try and make up rules that don't exist. Leave rule enforcement to the admins. We have no rule that prevents sourcing yourself for a discovery, and I've been doing it since before the wiki was created. --BMF54123 16:06, 14 August 2012 (EDT)

I have no beef with him and I didn't say that was a rule. ReyVGM 16:08, 14 August 2012 (EDT)

Monster Rancher Battle Card SGB OBJ_TRN

I played Monster Rancher Battle Card partway through before I gave up due to unforgiving boredom only because I wanted to see the SNES object(s) OBJ_TRN (C101) and have been said to exist somewhere. Does the object(s) display at the ending or elsewhere? Also, I have found some unused SGB commands including a SOU_TRN (49) so I already have enough material to create the article. Nensondubois 18:55, 18 August 2012 (EDT)

I can finish the game if you wish. I'm not familiar with what OBJ_TRN and SOU_TRN are supposed to be. I'll be using VBA though, my computer is not fast enough to emulate BSNES decently in case you need to test the game using accurate Super Game Boy emulation. I could still play the game though and give you a .sav file? ReyVGM 21:19, 18 August 2012 (EDT)

OBJ_TRN sends SNES object data into the SNES from the Game Boy game (sadly no one used this feature except in this game, to my knowledge at least). SOU_TRN sends music and/or sample data (JUMP command in some cases) into the SNES ARAM (sadly almost never used either) from the Game Boy game allowing custom music and/or voice samples or general samples to be played. A save file would be awesome, if possible. I don't use bsnes since I can load games and saves onto my flashcart and play them on a real Super Game Boy. Nensondubois 22:25, 18 August 2012 (EDT)

Ok, what kind of saves would you like then? Just one before the ending? And how do you know what you want is used in the ending? ReyVGM 23:49, 18 August 2012 (EDT)

A save in .SAV format would work at the last possible save point available. Last possible save point during the ending sequence in VBA .SGM could also work from there. A 8x8 or 16x16 SNES pixel drawn over the screen would be enough notification. Nensondubois 23:52, 18 August 2012 (EDT)

Ok, give me a few days. I don't know how long or difficult the game is. I don't understand what you mean by that A 8x8 or 16x16 pixel notification though. ReyVGM 00:00, 19 August 2012 (EDT)

Could you give me a .SAV file right before you press A to view the full mural medal? I'm having trouble with this game and after collecting all mural pieces the game still shows one piece left :| nensondubois 14:33, 2 December 2012 (EST)

I don't have the saves anymore. The problem is that after you complete the mural, the medal gets removed and it's just an empty mural. The FAQ at gamefaqs has the location of all the pieces. I think you need to get all the cards to get all the mural pieces. ReyVGM 14:54, 2 December 2012 (EST)

Renaming Pages

I already made the change to the Mystical Ninja Starring Goemon page for you, but FYI:

To rename a page, just click the move tab at the top of the page, and give it the desired title. --Mattrizzle 20:47, 23 August 2012 (EDT)

Reply from KungFuFurby (from your Hello message)

Hello, ReyVGM! I've actually been on here for about one and a half years now, originally registering when I found the ending to Mega Man's Soccer. I have some extra material (including lots of unused music), although I'm not exactly confident about adding them on myself (especially with games that don't already have pages). However, I have been adding in my two cents for games that I myself was the source of said discovery. KungFuFurby 11:24, 20 January 2013 (EST)

Creating a page is easy and all you need to do is upload the music just like you upload an image. Other people will help/fix/add to whatever page you create. ReyVGM 13:55, 20 January 2013 (EST)
We have an extensive series of help pages here for just this purpose. You'll be able to learn everything you need to know about creating and editing pages, in addition to uploading files! --GlitterBerri 15:50, 20 January 2013 (EST)

Zero Escape to 999

I'm not going to make a big deal about it but I think the full title of 999 can go either way if the Wikipedia article and Aksys Games store have anything to say about it. The title "999: Nine Hours, Nine Persons, Nine Doors" was used before VLR came out and "Zero Escape: Nine Hours, Nine Persons, Nine Doors" was used after VLR came out. I think either name is correct.--Cuber456 03:52, 10 February 2013 (EST)

The Zero Escape name is perfectably suitable to be used in the AKA field. But the original name is 999 (even in the Zero Escape re-issue) and as far as I know, games are added under the original name. If that's not the case, then anyone can change the name back. (Wikipedia is not a source btw) :) ReyVGM 13:02, 10 February 2013 (EST)
Since with the new 3DS title, 999 is now part of the Zero Escape series, I think the title of "Zero Escape: Nine Hours, Nine Persons, Nine Doors" should be fine. Besides, don't we already have "Also known as: 999" in the Bob? -AquaBat 08:19, 10 February 2013 (EST)
I thought we were supposed to add games with the names they originally were released under - so Zero Escape should been a redirect. Heck, I found it weird to see an article of that game with the Zero Escape title, I wasn't even aware of a rerelease until now. // Foxhack 10:19, 10 February 2013 (EST)
Yes, games should always use the title they were originally released under. --BMF54123 15:24, 10 February 2013 (EST)
The page is fine under the original name, not the rerelease name. I have no issues there. I was just saying that I think the name could go either way. Even if you ignore Wikipedia, the Aksys Games website does list it as "Zero Escape: Nine Hours, Nine Persons, Nine Doors" since VLR released. From the summary of when you moved the article, you made it sound as if the title "Zero Escape" only applied to VLR which is incorrect. That is the only thing I wanted to clarify. --Cuber456 20:29, 10 February 2013 (EST)
Alright. Sorry, I didn't mean any confusion with that. ReyVGM 23:12, 10 February 2013 (EST)
Its whatever. I was just letting you know. Now lets drop this conversation and move onto more useful things :P :P --Cuber456 00:42, 11 February 2013 (EST)

A friendly tip for when you upload images!

Just a friendly tip, we like to add templates to the descriptions of the images, so when you upload an image, remember to use templates. Here's some quick tips on which template to use for what type of image:

  1. If it's a screenshot from a game that you took, use the Screenshot template; {{screenshot|system}}, for example {{screenshot|NES}}. Make sure you spell the system correctly, for example GameCube instead of Gamecube, or Game Boy Advance, instead of Gameboy Advance.
  2. If it's a graphic you ripped right out of the games files, use the Rippedgraphic template. Same usage as the Screenshot template; {{rippedgraphic|system}}, for example {{rippedgraphic|Game Boy Advance}}

Those are the main two image templates we use, and we use them because they add categories to the images, which helps keep them off the Uncategorized Files list (which myself, Divingkataetheweirdo and Einstein95 are currently working on clearing out!). Finally, we have some other useful templates for images, which you can check out by clicking here to view the "Image templates" category. Thanks, and keep up the great work! 404: User Not Found (talk) 00:04, 6 May 2013 (EDT)

Garou Dominated Mind

... I used the real title. See SNK Playmore's product page, the box cover (Full title is under the game logo), the spine (right side), and Sony's PS1 database entry. The title screen name should probably be used as a redirect since that's just the commonly used name, not the official title. The rules don't specifically say "use what's on the title screen", but "Use the proper name for the game." I don't want to start an move war, but I chose that title for a reason. :| // Foxhack 17:11, 15 November 2014 (EST)

I wasn't looking to start a war or anything. It's a wiki so anyone can edit it to-and-fro. I used the title screen name, because that's the one that's readily apparent, and as far as I know, that's what everyone uses here for the page name. I did look at the box before moving the page to the title screen name, and I did see the (complete) Japanese name. Which is why I put it in the bob's AKA. Believe me, I looove using the most complete name possible, but sometimes, if you go by the box, you get a ridiculous long name that no one will be able to search for. If the rules don't specifically say to use the title screen name, and if you want to move it back to the previous name, then go ahead.ReyVGM (talk) 23:18, 15 November 2014 (EST)

NES Palette

When taking NES screenshots, please remember to use the NES palette we provide (or Nestopia's default NTSC color settings) so your colors match the others on the wiki. --BMF54123 (talk) 15:53, 9 April 2015 (EDT)

That's what I'm using. The Super C images I uploaded are exactly like the ones you reuploaded. ReyVGM (talk) 20:06, 9 April 2015 (EDT)

Telenet Japan

This is also addressed to the entirety of TCRF.

Telenet Japan (and yes, the company's name is Telenet Japan, not just Telenet, though in Japanese it's written Nippon Telenet which is why you just see Telenet in some games) was a very large and complex company with a lot of divisions with very similar names. I've tried to run down everything in the past; here's what I've come up with:

  • Renovation Game - the company whose logo is RENO; this is different from
  • Renovation Products - the American publishing house, sold to Sega in 1993
  • Wolf Team (A Wolf Team in earlier products) - another developer who switched back and forth from being independent to not
  • Riot - another development team; straightforward here
  • Laser Soft - CD game publishing, some cart stuff to
  • Micro World - localizations of foreign games

Hopefully that helps - Andlabs (talk) 02:41, 1 July 2015 (EDT)

Hisou Kihei X Serd Article

Interesting you say that, because I specifically checked his Wikipedia page to see if Midori was the name of one of his victims before submitting the translation, and the name appears nowhere in the article. I also couldn't find any information on a Midori being among the victims upon Googling. Where are you getting this information from? --GlitterBerri (talk) 22:48, 6 October 2016 (EDT)

Rolling back your edit for the moment, but will revise the translation if provided a source. ^^ --GlitterBerri (talk) 23:05, 6 October 2016 (EDT)
Got it from the guy that discovered the text. (http://www.romhacking.net/forum/index.php/topic,22791.20.html) I keep forgetting I can message users directly, I would have done that instead of changing the page. Anyway, since I added the page, some users kept bothering me to modify that Midori bit. I do not know where they got that Midori was the second victim. ReyVGM (talk) 00:11, 7 October 2016 (EDT)
None of the four known victims were named Midori, according to the Wikipedia article. A bit of Googling doesn't suggest it was the name of any other relevant person either. --Devin (talk) 00:23, 7 October 2016 (EDT)

Edit Summaries & Revising Others' Work

Unless material is directly contravening wiki rules, please don't unilaterally remove content. If you feel that something should be removed for other reasons, it's a better policy to politely bring up your concerns on the talk page, so that others can weigh in. Authoritative edit summaries should also be limited to admin use, to avoid alienating other contributors. (Fwiw, I myself wasn't too keen on the intro, but did like the inclusion of the manual quotes.) --GlitterBerri (talk) 02:00, 30 January 2017 (EST)

Version Differences Stuff

For the Mario Kart: Double Dash! credits, I originally thought the music was extended, but then I saw that it's false. The reason I put that there originally is that one of my real friends told me that it was different in the European version, but I think it might be his brain, he was listening to that troll youtuber SilvaGunner or something else. Also for Kirby's Dream Collection's History changes, the 1991 and 8-bit Kirby statue is in the US version, but only the description was changed to console that Americans know, plus it also says Before 1992 in the description and the graphic on the wall displays as ~1991. The only main reason I keep putting or removing stuff on because I've watched videos of both Japanese and US versions and in both videos showed a Kirby Statue in both versions. I'm not mad at you or anything, It's just what I found on youtube, plus I actually do not own the game disc or ISO yet, so. --TCRFJNPoop (talk) 00:55, 24 October 2020 (BST)

1) Don't add stuff if you haven't confirmed it yourself. 2) Japanese version has a 1991 entry, the US version doesn't. N/A means not available. 3) You don't have to be mad at me for fixing your mistakes. This is a wiki, anything you add can get edited mercilessly by anyone within reason.ReyVGM (talk) 01:01, 24 October 2020 (UTC)

Genesis MK1 1-Button Fatalities

For me, the fact that all but one of the characters automatically take the required distance proves this was being worked on (there is also the time glitch, as I wrote) and maybe was supposed to be in the final game (as an option in the DULLARD menu, for example). All the official occurrences of 1-button Fatalities in the sequels involve the characters automatically taking the required distance, so why not think of it as unused content? If a single button press makes the game get the appropriate Fatality position that is stored somewhere, then compares it with the character's current position, then checks if the character should walk forwards or backwards to go to that position, then makes the character go to that position if needed and then performs the Fatality, it's obvious that it's something the programmers intentionally put in the code - as they did in some console versions of MK3, UMK3 and MKT, with the difference of having created official cheats to use it. --Jmcalil (talk) 10:34, 15 February 2021 (UTC)

If you can find a legit controller code that enables 1-button fatalities, then yes, that would be proper TCRF content (if it's unused). But right now you're just speculating that just because the sequels had an official 1-button fatality cheat code, then it must mean this game was also going to have one. You can create game genie cheats to trigger 1-button special moves on tons of fighting games and the animations would play the same way, even if the game was not programmed with a cheat to enable something like that. Acceptable Game Genie codes are codes to re-enable level selects, sound tests, debug stuff, etc. Now, if you found a text string in the game's code that showed any evidence that such cheat was planned, or a hex address that enables that, then that's a worthy discovery. ReyVGM (talk) 21:55, 15 February 2021 (UTC)
The fact that you created a game genie code per character to enable 1-button fatalities means that this is not something unused. If it was behavior from an unused 1-button fatality code, then all you would need to do is create one game genie code to enable the behavior, and all the characters would automatically follow those set of rules. I could create a cheat to have Mario "swim" in non-water levels, but just because Mario has the swimming animation in the air, doesn't mean Mario was planned to swim in the air. So anyway, if you find the 1-button fatality cheat or the hex address that would enable that cheat, then by all means add it. ReyVGM (talk) 22:01, 15 February 2021 (UTC)
Every Game Genie code is an encrypted way of changing the value of one or more hex addresses. No page in TCRF with Game Genie codes has this information, only the codes, so, AFAIK, I don't think it's really needed. Also, it's not just simply triggering a 1-button special move, it's activating a routine that calculates the appropriate distance before moving the character and making it do the move, even walking backwards if needed. Don't you think it's an obvious sign this was intended to be included in the game? --Jmcalil (talk) 23:42, 15 February 2021 (UTC)
Unless you find a mention of the 1-button fatality cheat or function in the game's code, then all you're doing is speculating. From the Rules & Guidelines: https://tcrf.net/Help:Contents/Rules_%26_Guidelines#Speculation ReyVGM (talk) 02:46, 16 February 2021 (UTC)
Also, you can add that Game Genie info to the game's talk page and other people can search for more information. Maybe someone else can find proof about your claims in the game's code. ReyVGM (talk) 02:48, 16 February 2021 (UTC)

Admin note? By whom?

You reverted my last edit with a so-called admin note, but I checked the list of admins and you're not there. Admin note: "this isn't activating any unused programming or anything, it's just skipping most of the code that's normally involved with doing fatalities"? Who wrote this and where? --Jmcalil (talk) 03:12, 23 February 2021 (UTC)

Sorry, brain fart. I should have added the name of the admin. Other than that, you can add those cheats to the game's talk page. In the future, if any evidence is found in the game's code about 1-button fatalities, then the info will already be there to be added. ReyVGM (talk) 03:50, 23 February 2021 (UTC)
That was me discussing it on the Discord server a few days ago - I was looking at the Game Genie codes and a disassembly, and the codes are just inserting short unconditional branches into the regular fatality routines. --Revenant (talk) 03:27, 23 February 2021 (UTC)

Kirby's Dream Collection's page history

Haha, told you I was right for the 1991 entry being in the US version too and having a different description, you sure did learn from the other users. TCRFJNPoop (talk) 00:20, 10 April 2021 (BST)

Screenshot Cropping

I'm not sure what you're doing by cropping a number of screenshots. Granted, they aren't terribly interesting, but I fail to see the point of it. --From: CounterDiving (talk) 00:35, 21 June 2021 (UTC)

Just thought it would reduce the bloat and only focus on the important part the images are supposed to be showing. In the case of Dragon Spirit, the text wasn't important, only the image, so I cropped it. In the case of Kid Kool, all those images with just a little text was just a waste of real state. If it's against the rules, or you just don't like it, then let me know and I'll leave it alone. ReyVGM (talk) 02:54, 21 June 2021 (UTC)

A note about your recent wiki edits

  1. When creating a page that only documents just the regional differences of the title screen of a game, add {{stub}} in the page in a way like how was added in the pages you made recently.
  2. Don't forget to tag your image uploads appropriately!
--ΓBSOD 10:47, 2 July 2021 (UTC)
When I use the option to upload multiple files at once, it doesn't give me the option to add the tags like with the regular single file uploader. Where one would add that for all the files at once?ReyVGM (talk) 15:49, 2 July 2021 (UTC)
At the moment there is no way to do that in the batch uploader. You can always add them later if there are not too much files by editing the files' pages, or you can do that by using the normal single-file uploader in this way: fill the Summary with the tag and an optional description, select the desired file and upload it, then go back by one page in its tab when the uploaded file's wiki page loads. In this way will be autofilled with the Summary you wrote before and will be ready to upload another file. --ΓBSOD 16:24, 2 July 2021 (UTC)
It seems you've been doing an awful lot of articles with just title screen comparisons. It would be appreciated if more could be found beyond this. --From: CounterDiving (talk) 19:16, 14 March 2022 (UTC)

That regional difference is all I had about the game. ReyVGM (talk) 16:13, 23 September 2021 (UTC)

Gun.Smoke edits

The jokey image captions you removed from the Gun.Smoke article were added by the page's original author nearly 6 years ago. GoldS is both an admin and one of our more prolific and respected contributors. Is there some reason you felt compelled to do this? --Rusty (talk) 02:58, 31 October 2021 (UTC)

A user named Sledge3 recently added a lot of those jokes. I left the captions with relevant info. ReyVGM (talk) 03:17, 31 October 2021 (UTC)
Users are free to add humorous alt-text to images, so long as they are adding content and not just editing for the sake of adding/changing jokes. Sledge3's contributions were perfectly acceptable. --Rusty (talk) 03:28, 31 October 2021 (UTC)

A note about your recent wiki edits

Just wanted to inform you that I've reverted your recent edits on Super Mario Bros. 2 (NES) (about pruning the page intro for being a "over explained history lesson") and Biker Mice from Mars (SNES) (in this case only about the removal of humour). The reason behind this action is that both things were good to have: it's perfectly ok to add extra info in Super Mario Bros. 2 (NES)'s intro by talking about other related games (also using page intros to give historical info about a game in general). About Biker Mice from Mars (SNES), it's not wrong either to have humour about SNICKERS® and related things inside the page, nobody is getting sued for that and the important thing is that such humour is present alongside the actual content of the page. --ΓBSOD 00:34, 21 January 2022 (UTC)

Please stop misusing the batch uploader

I've noted that you've been uploading screenshots of games using the batch uploader for ripped graphics from at least the end of this January, please stop doing that. The one for in-game screenshots can be found in the section below it, in its page. --ΓBSOD 23:43, 3 March 2022 (UTC)

What exactly is wrong with having jokes in a page's intro paragraph?

Judging by the other topics on your talk page, it seems this is something multiple people have taken issue with, but you haven't responded to any of them; for this reason, I'm not going to expect, or wait for, a response. I'm just going to revert your edits because there was no good reason for them in the first place. --Murnjendoof (talk) 00:40, 14 June 2023 (UTC)

Editing intros or captions to add humor or jokes is against the rules: https://tcrf.net/Help:Contents/Rules_%26_Guidelines#Humor ReyVGM (talk) 05:03, 14 June 2023 (UTC)
Alright, I yield. I somehow didn't know that, but it won't happen again. Although, wouldn't the wording of that rule also prohibit your reversal of my edits? I guess it's a bit of a moot point now. --Murnjendoof (talk) 01:19, 15 June 2023 (UTC)
Don't take it personal. Editing perfectly fine intros puts people on alert, specially if it's to add jokes or unnecessary info. ReyVGM (talk) 08:02, 15 June 2023 (UTC)
No because your edits were against the rules in the first place. --Escape209 (talk) 02:42, 15 June 2023 (UTC)
