Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3 makes its debut on eighth gen consoles, allowing PS4 gamers (Xbox One and PC gamers got in on the fun a little later) to experience the high octane combat of the Marvel vs. Capcom series. This rerelease has all of the DLC included, such as additional characters and an alternate costume for each character (except Magneto).

This release came a few years after the delisting of the previous last-gen versions in 2013 and it continues to be available for purchase, but who knows for how much longer...

Unused Animations

Hmmm...
To do:
There's still several more unused animations in the game that have yet to be documented.

Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3 contains a myriad of animations that exist inside but were never used in the final game. Why these animations were cut is unknown.

Round Win Animations

Characters that were early in development had round win animations (non-cinematic winning animations) that were supposed to play when one of the two players won a round. This feature was cut early in development as very few character have these animations.

These characters include: Wolverine, Chun-Li, Ryu, Captain America, Iron Man, Frank West, Viewtiful Joe, and Morrigan. Note that some characters (Capcom side) reuse their round win animations from Tatsunoko vs. Capcom: Ultimate All-Stars.

Viewtiful Joe

Viewtiful Joe had a super in Tatsunoko vs Capcom known as Slow & Zoom. While this super does not exist in Marvel vs Capcom 3 the animations are still present as of Ultimate Marvel vs Capcom 3.

The below images were rendered in Blender with model and animation assets extracted from the game using Modding Tools.

Magneto's Alternate Costume

Magneto's alternate costume was going to be the Royal uniform as seen in the comic book cover of The Pulse: House of M by Mike Mayhew. Said art of the costume was heavily inspired by a photograph of King Juan Carlos of Spain' and due to threats from the Spanish Government, the sale for this costume never happened, which left Magneto as the only normally playable character in the game without an alternate costume.

In the 7th generation versions of Ultimate Marvel vs Capcom 3, the data still exists for the costume, was locked on the disc/cart, and was still accessible via a glitch in unpatched versions. In the PC version, and by extension, the PlayStation 4 era ports, however, things are different.

The costume may be removed, but the slot and supplemental coding for it still exist inside the game. For the current ports, they removed the file archive that housed the texture and model assets for said costume, set a bitflag in the save data to lock the costume slot, and inside a character select related function in the game binary, created a check for that costume slot specifically for Magneto. This check runs during character select, and will revert the chosen color to Magneto's default color if detected.

Also, there's still some UI elements for the costume that are still present inside the game. The uploaded example texture images were converted from LAB color, the format Marvel 3 stores UI textures, to RGB, so colors may be incorrect.
