The Game Boy Color Resident Evil was an ambitious attempt to port the very popular game to the portable system. Capcom announced the port in 1999, but the release date was later pushed into 2000 before the game was eventually canned and replaced with Resident Evil Gaiden.

In 2012, two prototype builds were released: one about 90% complete with some minor bugs, and one from earlier in development with only Chris' story available. Also, zombies apparently kneel when they die in either version (zombie death sprites had yet to be programmed when the game was scrapped).

This page details the more complete second build.

Hmmm...
To do:
Stuff.
  • Figure out debugging controls, if any.
  • Document the additional unused tracks present in the ROM. These include remixed tracks from the original PS1 game and brand-new tracks for the GBC version (source).

Debugging Features

Debug is enabled by default. In this build, two sets of numbers show up at the top of the screen during blank text screens, such as "They have escaped into the mansion where they thought it was safe". During gameplay, there are numbers at the bottom of the screen that show your position on the map, although they disappear when selecting something from the item menu.
