Resident Evil - Code: Veronica
Resident Evil – Code: Veronica |

Also known as: Biohazard - Code: Veronica (JP), Biohazard - Code: Veronica Kanzenban (JP re-release) This game has hidden development-related text. |
To do: Compare the cutscenes from the original Dreamcast release of Code: Veronica with the updated Kanzenban game released only in Japan. |
Resident Evil – Code: Veronica was the first game in the Resident Evil series to include a real-time 3D environment (Resident Evil 1, 2 and 3 used pre-rendered static backgrounds). This game was originally going to be called Resident Evil 3 in the timeline, but because of name policies at the time (this prevented games released on consoles outside of the PlayStation platforms from being numbered with the main series), it was renamed Code: Veronica instead. Wesker also makes his grand reappearance after his absence from Resident Evil 2 and 3.
Version Differences
The main changes made to the updated Kanzenban rerelease were the addition of 7 minutes of extra cutscenes, mostly featuring an expanded role for Wesker. The other changes made to the Kanzenban release were relatively minor. Steve's hair was changed, Battle mode is available from the start, and both Easy and Very Easy modes were included. Easy mode lowers the amount of damage you find from enemies, and it increases the amount of ink ribbons, herbs, and ammo (not that the game really needed this as ammo and healing items were so plentiful in Normal mode). Very Easy mode is the same as Easy mode, except you get an unlimited ammo rocket launcher.
Title Screen

---|---|
The Japanese word 'Kanzenban' can be translated as 'Complete Edition'. This version was released in early 2001 so Capcom had the title screen updated accordingly. The Japanese title screen has a ® symbol instead of the ™ symbol found in the US release. 完全版 (Kanzenban) was appended to the end of the title screen to remind you that you are playing the Complete Edition. CAPCOM U.S.A. was removed in the Japanese release. The final difference was the strange removal of Wesker found in the background image between Chris and Claire. The removal is strange because Wesker played a much larger role in the Kanzenban release.
