system 16214,0x00100000
vsh 2004_1104_s16214_p3883_v8335

This firmware was meant to be a placeholder update (that was uploaded to the update servers) in 2005 when they were preparing for the release of the retail firmware 1.50 using the network update feature of the system. (v1.0.0, nicknamed "Bogus". Download here.) The only units the firmware works on is the PSP-1000 (Japanese) model and a DTP-T1000 (development kit) with a few required modifications; it cannot be installed unmodified or to any other model. (Or else you'll brick your PSP!1)

Startup

  • The text reads "Sony Computer Entertainment Inc." instead of just "Sony Computer Entertainment".
  • The gameboot logo on the Bogus firmware doesn't have the "PlayStation Portable" text under the PSP logo.
  • The startup sound is different.
  • The Bogus firmware's gameboot doesn't have a sound.
Early Final

Video

This is footage of the 1.00 firmware menu.

Early Sounds

All of the assets here are present in flash0:\vsh\resource.

Each of the sounds have their normal filename defined by the .rco file, as well as their original internal name in the VAGp stream name section, which is written under the sound file. It also has a maximum limit of 16 characters, meaning the original name gets cut off in most cases.

The sounds have a lot more variety in this firmware compared to the final counterpart, where most sounds are identical, some were left empty, and some sounds were repurposed to a different file.

Early Graphics

Most of the XMB default icon graphics had the text on them removed.

Note: there are multiple duplicate graphics across the .rcos, as well as duplicate filenames for different graphics, but the filenames used here are their intended ones.

This is a development firmware, which wasn't meant to boot into the XMB, yet it has most if not all of the VSH related assets present, albeit with a lot of the functionality missing.

The XMB early default graphics are identical to the 1.00 firmware's icons.

Early Sounds

The sounds have become much less varied and similar to what's used in the retail firmwares.
