Donkey Konga takes the rhythm drumming gameplay of Namco's Taiko no Tatsujin games and gives it the old banana slamma. It was the first game to introduce the plastic cover tune DK Bongos, which ended up becoming a staple feature in all subsequent Donkey Kong games on the GameCube.

Hmmm...
To do:
  • Document more thoroughly.
  • Codes for other regions.

Enter the following Action Replay code to access a debug menu after the Nintendo and Namco logo screens in the PAL version. The options are, for the most part, self-explanatory.

Song Oddities

For some reason, Donkey Konga Theme has one less note in the Monkey difficulty in the Japanese version compared to European and USA, but also a considerable difference in Quartet. In Europe and USA, the note count for lanes 1, 2, 3 and 4 is 182, 174, 180 and 181 notes respectively, where as in Japanese the count is 231, 223, 230 and 223 notes respectively.

Warning Screen

DonkeyKongaWarningScreen.png

The Japanese version has a start-up warning advising players to be wary of vibrations, the sound and the amount of time they play. This warning is absent for the International releases.

Title Screen

Japan US Europe
DonkeyKongaTitleJP.png Donkey Konga-title.png DonkeyKongaTitleEU.png

Every title screen depicts a scene of the beach, but the US version displays a different scene from the international versions. The latter depicts a straight view of the beach, which is partially obscured by the game's logo. The Japanese version's title screen has the logo shifted up to accommodate the game's title in Japanese and has additional copyright info. The US version's title screen shows Donkey Kong and Diddy Kong partying at the shore, with a pair of bongos and a boombox in the scene, the "PRESS START BUTTON" text also had the word "BUTTON" removed for the international versions.
