Debug Mode
To do: Where in the level list are the "XXXX" entries located, (does this suggest unused/scrapped levels?) catalogue the unused sounds |
At the title screen, press B, A, Right, B, A, Right, A (BARBARA, a reference to lead programmer Barbara Michalec) to access a debug menu. The features are as follows:
- Start At - Level Select. Any entry marked "XXXX" will either re-load the menu, or crash the game. Press Up or Down to toggle the level. Press Start to leave Debug Menu once you have selected your stage.
- Cruise Mode - Press A or Z (the latter also toggles the coordinate display) to toggle between cursor and player. Cursor is a free-movement mode, whereas Player just seems to be the normal movements.
- Play Sound - Sound Test. Some entries are unused in the game itself, but are fully functional. Press B to select a song, and C to play it.
- Coordinates Display - Self-explanatory. Press Z to toggle it on and off (this also toggles cruise mode).
Oddities
When playing as the Road Runner, the first and second levels (Red Rock Rendezvous and Buttes and Ladders, respectively) are played in reverse order. However, the between-level animations are not changed to account for this, even though they are played in a different order. This means that you first watch the Road Runner run from Red Rock Rendezvous to Buttes and Ladders, then play Buttes and Ladders, then watch him run from off-screen to Red Rock Rendezvous, then play Red Rock Rendezvous, and then finally watch Road Runner run from Buttes and Ladders to Choo Choo Terrain, the third level. Other than this instance, the level orders when playing as Wile E. Coyote and the Road Runner match perfectly, so the reason for this change is unclear.
