The Elder Scrolls Adventures: Redguard is the first fully 3D Elder Scrolls title and the first to forgo the RPG formula in favor of an early Tomb Raider-esque adventure. Replacing the unnamed blank slate heroes found in previous titles, our protagonist Cyrus the Redguard must venture to the Imperial controlled island of Stros M'Kai to search for his missing sister, Iszara.

Serpent
Within the game files is a mostly complete giant sea serpent enemy. Seemingly conceived for the game early on, this serpent had concept art drawn for it as well as the previously mentioned 3D model. The serpent was intended to be encountered on the path to N'Gasta's island. Since the serpent was never fully developed, when the the monster is spawned into the game it will be very buggy, and will try to follow and attack Cyrus, even on land.
Horses
In an interview shortly before the game's release, Todd Howard revealed that the team considered implementing horse riding gameplay for Cyrus during the events of Redguard, before ultimately scraping the idea.
AVault: Have there been any features, gameplay stuff that you weren't able to add to the game that you wanted to?
Todd Howard: We wanted Cyrus to ride a horse, but after trying to implement this process we found it would not work. Because if Cyrus is able to ride a horse, then everybody needs to be able to ride a horse. Then we started to ask ourselves [if he would] be able to sword fight on a horse. Then we got into collision detection problems, etc. It just wasn't practical. Every other feature made it into the game.
Developer Asset Showcase
To do:
|
During the development, or soon after the release of the game, 3D artist and texture painter for Redguard, Hugh Riley, uploaded flash movies of his contributions to the game to his online portfolio. Many assets appear identical to the final release, but allow a much closer and higher resolution look at the tiny items, and their icons, placed in Cyrus' inventory in the final game. Some other assets have small changes from the final, and some changes are intentionally made to better showcase the asset. For example, the Dreek animation has added transparency to the textures of the bar he leans on, to showcase his feet during the walking animation.

The Italian Job?
Inside of RG.EXE is a partial transcription of 1969 movie, The Italian Job. Bethesda likely included this transcript in the executable to fill the remaining CD space after Redguard's main game data was finalized. This text starts at 0x3E1764:
On days like these, when skies are blue.... And then I hear sweet music float around my head... As I recall the things we said left unsaid... It's on days like this, that I remember... [Arthur nearly snips Professor Peaches nose off] [Sound of Billiards falling over] [Alto Bene] Gentlemen, we must assume they are here.
