See, this is why server preservation is important.
This game/console's online features are no longer supported.
While this game/console's online features were once accessible, they are (as of June 19, 2006) no longer officially supported and online-exclusive features may be documented as now-unseen content.
Hmmm...
To do:
Oh boy, there's a lot to do:
This cactus is UNDER CONSTRUCTION
This article is a work in progress.
...Well, all the articles here are, in a way. But this one moreso, and the article may contain incomplete information and editor's notes.
So very stubbly.
This page is rather stubbly and could use some expansion.
Are you a bad enough dude to rescue this article?

Midtown Madness 2 is a free-roam racing/arcade sequel to Midtown Madness, fixing many of the issues that were in the previous game. It uses the same game engine as Midnight Club: Street Racing and Smuggler's Run, and as such shares a lot of unused features and files.

Vehicles

Unused Traffic Cars

  • va_minivan_s - A minivan with a wedge shaped front. Its headlight and grille design are similar to va_2siter_s and va_ultrasport_l. It bears resemblance to the Ford Galaxy and the Dodge Caravan. Judging by the _s prefix, it would have been used in both San Francisco and London. It was used in the MM3323 build, however.
  • va_pickup_f - A two-tone color pickup truck originally seen in the previous installment, but it was cut from the final game for unknown reasons, along with the minivan. It bears resemblance to the 1982 Ford F-150. Judging by the _f suffix, it would have been used in San Francisco. It can be seen in certain pre-release media and was used in the MM3323 build, however.

Unused Colors

  • For unknown reasons, the white color of the Ford F-350 Super Duty was cut from this vehicle, but all the files for it can still be found in the mm2core.ar file, and the white color for the vehicle itself can be easily restored by modifying its vpford.info file.
  • Textures for Eden Green, Fire Red, Dolo Blue, and Black colors for the New Mini Cooper (R50) exist in the game's files, but are left unused. These unused colors can be restored with third-party modifications.
  • The Matamow Cup paintjob for the Volkswagen New Beetle Dune Concept (Typ 1C) is left unused. There are a few unused lines for unlocking one of the custom paint jobs of this car in London, likely this paintjob, which also went unused for unknown reasons.

Unused Meshes

  • vpdb731.pkg is an early version of the Aston Martin DB7 Vantage. It was last edited in November 1999, making this the oldest model found in the game. It is slightly longer and more accurate to its real life counterpart.

Unused Textures

General

  • check_point_02.tex, check_point_cc_02.tex, and check04.tex are three unused checkpoint textures. The first was a leftover from its previous installment, the second would have been used for Crash Course events, and the third has no text and are reminiscent of the early checkpoints from the previous game's official trailer. Attempting to apply these textures through file renaming will result in the textures not looking as intended.
  • There are Blitz and Crash Course specific HUD arrows but are not used. They can be restored with NuHook.

San Francisco

  • mt2ow01a is an earlier version of s_ocean.
  • va_cablecar_s_bk.tex, va_cablecar_ft.tex, and va_cablecar_st_sd.tex are three unused textures of 2D pedestrians, which were used for the tram during the game's development. They can be seen in a pre-release screenshot.
  • grafiti.tex is the phrase "MADNESS MIDTOWN" crudely written in pink.

London

  • Files named sky_xx_l.tex are earlier sky textures intended for London. These textures can be restored if renamed appropriately.
  • There is an unused texture named bf_imax_mural_l.tex, an earlier version of bf_imax_mural2_l.tex, the texture used in-game.

Unused Files

Unused Textures

  • There are several blank textures in the mm2tex.ar file. The reason for this is unknown, although it is possible that their data was overwritten or they were improperly deleted.
  • A higher resolution side texture of va_garbagetruck from Midnight Club: Street Racing can be found in the game's files.
  • va_wheel1.tex is an unused texture which was used during Midnight Club: Street Racing's development. It was used by va_sedan copy and va_test from earlier builds of that game.
    • vpwheel1.tex is also an unused wheel texture which was used by earlier versions of the Kuruma and the Crusero seen in pre-release screenshots of Midnight Club: Street Racing.
  • va_gen_tex.tex, va_headlight1.tex, and va_taillight1.tex are also leftovers from Midnight Club: Street Racing.

Other
