Dragon Quest V: Hand of the Heavenly Bride is a Nintendo DS remake of Dragon Quest V, an RPG first released on the Super Famicom exclusively in Japan. This remake is the first localized release of the game.
Debug Room
To do: Enable the debug menu, JP/EU codes. |
Use the following Action Replay code in the US version to access a Debug Room. Note that this room is a modified version of the Debug Room found in Dragon Quest IV for the Nintendo DS, a not-so-subtle hint the two games share the same engine.

It consists of a house interior with different floors, such as water, ice, and damaging floors. There is a healing spot, a raft and a freaking ship taking you to an "island" of sorts, and nonfunctional stairs. One of the ropes leads to an upper floor, with a strangely shaped conveyor belt. Oh, and two locked doors.
There are also some pitfalls and a second rope, which would take you to an exterior area with loads of NPCs. Unfortunately, their functionality is disabled, but there is matching translated debug text in the ROM. You can wander out-of-bounds in this map for some reason. A well can take you back to the previous room.
Anti-Piracy
This game runs a check to make sure it is running off a legitimate copy rather than a flash cartridge. If this check fails, the ship on the opening scene will never reach port, effectively trapping you in an endless loop. This was famously used to out pirates who post messages on forum boards about it when the game was released.
