Screenshots

I recently saw your screenshots on Big Challenge! Dogfight Spirit and see that they're in the wrong resolution and were untagged; I added the tags but they still need to be in PAL resolution. What he was (poorly) trying to explain is that NES screenshots need to be taken at 256x240, rather than the cropped 256x224 that a lot of emulators use by default. Both PAL and NTSC consoles output 240 lines, it's just that most NTSC TVs of the era would mask the top and bottom of the screen, hence the widespread misinformation.
Additionally, all NES screenshots need to use the same palette file for consistency, as explained here. Your recent Superman screenshots did not use the correct palette, so I've already replaced them for you. --BMF54123 (talk) 07:14, 24 May 2016 (EDT)
I read the rules and now know they're supposed to be 256x240, which I can easily do by switching to PAL emulation. Not sure how I'm supposed to get the right pallette though. I use FCEUX.--Doommaster1994 (talk)
Grab the "ntsc.pal" file, click "Config" > "Palette...", then click the "Load Palette..." button. You can also set the screen resolution to 240px in NTSC mode by clicking "Config" > "Video..." and in the "Drawing Area" box to the right, set first line to 0 and last line to 239. Just a heads up, you seem to be using the incorrect palette in your most recent NES screenshot uploads. Also, instead of running games in PAL mode, you can set the correct resolution in the settings as well. (See above message). TheBluegeek (talk) 15:21, 29 January 2022 (UTC)

An exception could be when you're noting if the header is different between a prototype and the final game. Yeah, I've had source code for a potential prototype page for this game in the works. The prototype's got differences I look forward to documenting, and there are bound to be more that your videos didn't show (like what happens if you complete a level instead of receiving a page in the final). Hey, we spoke before about the Barts nightmare SNES prototype. This may sound crazy, but I’d like to give dumping the rom a shot. I’ve got an INL Retro Dumper and gained a bit of know-how in this type of thing. My confidence in successfully dumping the rom is not high, but with a bit of help from other people online, I feel it could be done. I’m thinking of just asking for a few weeks or so to try and get the prototype dumped. If I don’t succeed in a few weeks, I’ll mail the cartridge back to you. If I do, as soon as I get the rom, I’ll get the cart sent back to you right then and there. What do you think? SOS89 (talk) 16:35, 27 November 2023 (UTC)


Yoshi's Cookie

Sup DoomMaster. I removed the Yoshi's Cookie credits stuff you added because it's pretty common for Japanese games to feature (obviously) Japanese in their credits. But since the Japanese version uses a mix of English and Japanese (while the western version uses purely English), then if you feel it's an unwarranted deletion, ask one of the admins to see what they say. Personally, I would only add things like that if the name in Japanese contains some difference between the other regions. But if it's the same name, but using a different syllabary, then that's somewhat comnon (as you know from your own credits experience). ReyVGM (talk) 20:19, 3 March 2021 (UTC)

Die Hard

About those Die Hard bad endings. Did you actually play the game and saw those bad endings or did you extract the scrip from the game's code? Reason I'm asking is because that "Both John and Hans Die" ending seems to be unused. In the last battle there is no way to actually jump off the window. You can't even push Hans out the window either. The only way to win is to shoot him down. ReyVGM (talk) 01:16, 6 March 2021 (UTC)

I don't really know if translation differences are even accepted here. Because if so, then pretty much every single Japanese to English translation should be covered in its entirely since every game is going to contain a ton of language differences, extra words, extra sentences, different meanings, different jokes, etc. So you might want to talk to Rusty first before you go through all that work.ReyVGM (talk) 05:30, 6 March 2021 (UTC)
