Also known as: Duke Nukem: Endangered Species Hunter
Developer: Action Forms
Platform: Windows

This article is a work in progress.
...Well, all the articles here are, in a way. But this one moreso, and the article may contain incomplete information and editor's notes.
Hmmm...
To do:
  • Screenshots of the weapons, screenshots of the maps and maybe do comparisons with Vivisector: Beast Within.
  • Cover design documents leaked in 2023.
This game was stuffed away in a cardboard box and found 30 years later in a garage
This game was never completed and/or given a public release.
As a result of this, keep in mind that the developers might have used or deleted some of the content featured here, had the game actually been released.

Duke Nukem: Endangered Species was a cancelled game by Ukrainian developer Action Forms. It would have involved Duke going hunting for, well, endangered species while waiting for Duke Nukem Forever to release. It was cancelled and retooled as an unrelated slav-jank game called Vivisector: Beast Within.

The infamous x0r_jmp, following up from their previous release would leak a build. Strangely the build has had work done on it as late as 2002, long after it was confirmed to have been cancelled. Also note that the game requires patches to work properly, however, x0r_jmp were kind enough to provide community patches and fixes for this game.

Instant Action Mode

An Instant Action gamemode is present, however, the menu for it is broken. Instead of proper menu graphics it uses a black-and-white gradient.

Maps

1: Gorilla Island

A gorilla island. Clicking "Play" when this map is selected will send the player back to the menu.

2: Grizzly

This level will load up, but will crash the game after the loading screen is finished.

3: Lion Safari

This level will load up "properly". Almost the entire level will be rendered improperly due to rendering issues. This affects every level in the game.

4: Werewolf night

Another "fully-functioning" level, this time about werewolves.

5: Alligated city

An "alligated" city. Just like Gorilla Island, clicking "Play" with this map selected will send the player back to the menu.

6: Tiger escape

A snowy level.

7: ChernoBull

A level set in Chernobyl. In addition to the rendering issues, this map also has no skybox.

Weapons

This cancelled game contains the following weapons: Knife, Pistol, Shotgun, Sniper Rifle, M16, RPG, Pipe Bomb, Shrinker, Freeze Ray and Alien Gun. This game also has an Equipment menu, which gracefully provides a description for each weapon in the game. Of note is that weapons do not need to be reloaded, unlike many other games of this era.

M16

The M16 is modeled with an unusable M203 grenade launcher attached to it.
