English Fan Translation Findings
Nothing mind-blowing, but there is some unused text. Full script dump (albeit with an English translation) is available here. Comments in the same part of the script as なっとくの せいかくさ seem to be remnants of a much more fully-featured drum lessons section. レッスン(じっせん8) in a different section further confirms this. There is one single string for リズムお習字 2 (Rhythm Calligraphy 2), but there is no such game. Rhythm Calligraphy does exist, however. --Knowingest 00:25, 16 March 2013 (EDT)
Prototype
I don't know Japanese. There is some kind of interview that discusses a drum sequencer prototype from 2002. Apparently, it was incorporated into Tengoku as Drum Lessons. Video and source. --Knowingest 00:25, 16 March 2013 (EDT)
Unused Graphics?
I've found some graphics that I don't recognise stored in BG0 for two rhythm games. Here are the images:
Karate Man
Rhythm Datsumo
I've only played the game a bit, so I'm not sure if these are used and I just haven't encountered them yet. --Grandta13 (talk) 06:44, 1 October 2015 (EDT)
These graphics are used in one of the Remixes later down the line, either 7 or 8.The one from Karateka is for a thing where you only hitrocks, and the one from the turnip picking is to hide the hair on the turnip to make it "harder".Frozenburg (talk) 08:24, 1 October 2015 (EDT)
Actually Unused Graphics?
While playing around with the memory viewer in Visual Boy Advance, I managed to find something. change 0x089D087B's value to 00 and go to Vegeta-Pull/Rhythm Tweezers and skip the practice. This image will appear playing the same sound when the headline in the ratings shows up, followed by noise and no inputs do anything. The text reads "Flow check", which coupled with the sound effect, leads me to believe it's a beta version of the results screen. --Mariofan5000 (talk) 16:25, 19 February 2017 (EST)
Unused Marching Orders sprites,
I just came across This Video, and apparently the soldiers from the first game have sprites for pointing like the rabbits. I'm not entirely sure if these are unused, can someone else confirm this? --Khalil805 (talk) 12:23, 15 August 2017 (EDT)
Unused Sounds, Possibly for Marching Orders?
Unused Marching Orders Sounds?
--Psxmemes (talk) 14:40, 29 May 2018 (EDT)
- Yep, early sounds for Marching Orders. It makes a lot more sense when you split the sounds into smaller segments. Dg125 (talk) 22:37, 10 February 2021 (UTC)
Even more unused graphics
i think i should talk about these
found in the game results, unused versions of the ok and try again graphics
an unused cowbell in the rhythm test graphics
a bunch of unused game select graphics
should we add these to the main page at all?
--Dg125 (talk) 14:18, 6 July 2020 (UTC)
- Thank you a lot! I am currently adding them to the main page. ONE TWO THREEEEE (talk) 04:08, 17 July 2020 (UTC)
- Oh, and uhh, this entire mess of graphic tiles is mostly composed of unused Game Select tiles, including the R-IQ and R-Games graphics, and the used Perfect Notice tiles
- i dont know how they would be placed together, so if anyone can mock these up i would be eternally grateful
- We've been seeing some animations being put together for some other unused GFX, including that unused cowbell I mentioned all the way back in mid 2020.
- This is leaving me wondering if there are any unused layouts or animations for these early game select menu GFX?
Every sample was extracted. Unused sounds galore.
There are some unused sounds here as well. Such as the Super Mario Bros. shell kick sound. I don't have the patience to listen through all 900+ sounds, so can you comb through them for me? Thanks. Dg125 (talk) 22:40, 10 February 2021 (UTC)
- Hi, the Python script I used to do this is now public; so if any of you wanna check it out, please do:
- You've also ripped the instuments! But are there any unused ones in this game that are unused?--(User_talk:JacintaB20 (Talk) 7:25, 14 March 2021 (UTC)
Power Calligraphy 2
0x2000026-0x200005D contains a table of 1-byte entries for each rhythm game's unlock state. This is 56 entries long despite only 48 rhythm games: 6 are used for the leftmost column, 1 is unused at the very end, and 1 is at 0x2000042. The structure of this table is not the unlock order, ex. the first 4 entries are Karate Man/Karate Man 2/The Clappy Trio/The Snappy Trio. Power Calligraphy is at 0x2000041, and as it groups games and their sequels together an unused entry directly following it implies its use for Power Calligraphy 2. --Sme23 (talk) 04:25, 2 March 2021 (UTC)
- This is really interesting! For the most time, we thought that text string was the only remnant of Power Calligraphy's sequel, so this is a pleasant surprise.
- I brought this up in RHModding, me and User:Mariofan5000 messed around with this table for a while. He noted that the unused entry in the end of the table is used in the kiosk demo for the rhythm test. Trying to "unlock" it in the retail version leads nowhere.
- He also noticed that in the kiosk demo, Marching Orders and Spaceball are unlocked in the table, yet don't appear in the Game Select screen. --Cebola (Talk) 21:42, 2 March 2021 (UTC)
Revision
There's a 1.1 revision of this game. I don't know anything about it other than it has a different header, and the fan translation won't work with 1.1
Whoops!
Accidentally pressed enter before finalizing my undo edit blurb.
I was gonna say "I don't think having the unofficial name given to the game by a fan-translation is needed here." But now it just says "I don"
