Jurassic Park is a decent platformer for the Genesis. You can play as Dr. Grant, and use weapons to knock down the dinosaurs you face, or play as the Raptor, and destroy everything in your path.

Debug Mode
Enter the password NYUKNYUK
, and a message saying "Second controller enabled" will appear. With this mode active, the following buttons on the second controller can be pressed:
- D-Pad: Moves the character freely around the map. When the directions are released, the character will behave normally again, so use with caution.
- Select weapon: Lags the game while it's held.
- Attack: Heals the character and, in Grant's case, gives him a full stock of every weapon (but oddly, only 25 for the tazer, even if you had more).
- Start: Soft-resets the game.
Debug Menu
Activate the debug mode, then enter and leave the options' screen. Then, choose "Start" on the main menu, and you'll be taken to the debug menu.
This screen has a T-Rex' skeleton in the background, and the compile date and time on the bottom. Each version has its own date:
- US: 5/26/93, Wednesday, at 10:10:39 AM
- EU: 6/14/93, Monday, at 10:37:47 AM
- JP: 6/14/93, Monday, at 10:27:50 AM
In this menu, you can change the following options:
- Level: The level you want to enter. Grant and the Raptor don't share levels, so you can have Grant play on the Raptor's stages and vice-versa. If you do so, the game will load the level's original character, but if certain events happen, the character you chose will be rendered from there on.
- Player controls: Choose which character you'll play as.
- Sound: Sound test, with music and sound effects. There are 3 unused sounds, appropriately named
<unused 17>
,<unused 18>
and<unused 19>
. These are silent, though.
Other Menus
This needs some investigation. Discuss ideas and findings on the talk page. |
There is some text that hints to the existence of other menus.
- At $467C0, one can read
GRANT SEQUENCES
,RAPTOR SEQUENCES
,COMPY SEQUENCES
andREXX SEQUENCES
. This could hint to a video-sequence visualizer, despite there being no cutscenes related to any Procompsognathus (our friend, the Compy) or T-Rex. - At $13D2FC, there are several strings that say
GRANT STAND
,GRANT WALK
,GRANT RUN
, etc. These could belong to an animation viewer. - Finally, at $1A804C, there are other strings, that say
STAIRHIT1-8
,WALK1-12
,TURN1-3
, etc. These could also be related to the animation viewer, but pointed towards the Raptor's.
Unused Song
There is a little song, named "You Win", that can be heard in the sound test, but it's not used anywhere.
Unused Graphic
These crudely drawn numbers can be found on the VRAM at the end of the Jungle's tileset. Maybe they're part of an Easter egg?
Unreachable Powerup
A quick tidbit; there is a powerup that cannot be accessed in the game. In Grant's Visitor's Center, there are some explosive grenades right under the elevator, but the path to access them is blocked by a pillar. They can be accessed in the prototype, though.
