The Jaguar port of Wolfenstein 3D is similar to the SNES port, but features enhanced graphics, the (readded) ability to save anywhere, and some questionable gameplay changes. Eat treasures to restore health!

A few changes were made compared to the SNES version. Also secrets no longer require an end tile.

  • Floor 1-1: A few treasures were added. Presumably this is because treasures may be replaced with enemies at harder skills.
  • Floor 1-3: The one-up at the end was removed. Since it increases the player health to 200% in this version instead of an extra life, it may have been seen as redundant to the one-up inside the secret.
  • Floor 2-7: Some officers were added to the boss area.
  • Floor 3-3: Another redundant one-up was removed.
  • Floor 5-2: In the corridor surrounded by SS soldiers, some walls were added to make it easier. Some lamps were removed, presumably to avoid a drop in frame rate.
  • Floor 5-6: Some decoration was removed at the start, presumably to avoid a drop in frame rate since there are many enemies in this level.

Unused Graphics

Two walls and one frame of the Ubermutant exist in the ROM, but are not used in the game. This is likely due to this version being based on the SNES port, but the graphics being closer to the original PC version. As expected, the PC has lower resolution equivalents to the images above, but they were removed in the SNES.

Interestingly, the wall with the swastika is very pixelated, implying the art was not finished. The other wall made its way to the Mac and 3DO ports.

Unused Sounds

This line is not used anywhere in the SNES version of Wolfenstein 3D.

Surprisingly, one "enemy see" sound was kept from the SNES version. It is a guard shouting "Stop!", and is most likely legacy content.

The WHOLE (short) RECORDING SESSION of the voice actor saying "Guten Tag!" is in the game, though only the first part gets used. What's really interesting is that in between the times when the voice actor says "Guten Tag!", someone (most likely Bobby Prince) can be heard saying "One more time...".
