Regional Differences

The game itself features regional detection, and will make various changes depending on the region of the system detected.

Title Screen

The Japanese title screen simply has the game's name as Ușas, while the European title screen adds additional text at the top to call the game The Treasure of Ușas. Note that outside of the title screen, however, the game is consistently referred to as Ușas even on the European packaging and manual.

Text Display

The narration in the Japanese version is presented in an outlined box, but this is removed in the European version to make way for more space for the text.

Similarly, the character dialogue in the opening is presented with comic-book style panels in the Japanese version. This was changed in the European version to having the dialogue appear below the image instead, now also indicating who is currently speaking. This presentation style is also used for the ending dialogue in both versions.

Opening Animation Error

The European opening features a noticeable error at the end compared to the Japanese opening. The sprite representing Wit and Cles is supposed to stop at the main entrance like in the Japanese opening, but for whatever reason, the sprite in the European opening will end up walking past the entrance and stop at the CG border instead!

Considering that both versions are on the same cartridge, it's a mystery as to how this mistake even happened.

Stage Select Dialogue

The European version of the game uses less punctuation marks in the stage select screen and comes off rougher than the Japanese version overall.
