Password

Not sure this is how to take up the main page's invitation to start up a page here, but many, many years ago (1992ish) I knew someone who had a password for this game that would start you out in the first month of the game with an unremarkable amount of money, but 3 shares of a stock called "ION NOT PRO" that could be sold immediately for $17,000,000,000- enough to carry you through the entire game with no trading many times over. I believe the password had a couple of miscopied characters. Sofel Street 22:56, 20 December 2012 (EST)

I don't see any instances of ION NOT PRO in the stock lists in the ROM, so my guess is that it's just a glitch. --BMF54123 01:47, 21 December 2012 (EST)
I'm probably misremembering the name of the stock (with it having been so long). I'm thinking it was either actual unused (if glitchy) stock data, or some completely different data misread as stock data that the password pointed to. (I'm guessing the first would be appropriate for this wiki, but not the second.) Thanks anyway for looking into it, as I have only a very vague idea how to look at the game's data. Details about "The Money Game II: Kabutochou no Kiseki"

Most places on the internet documenting this game refer to it as a localization of the Japanese SOFEL title The Money Game II: Kabutochou no Kiseki. However, there are extremely few similarities between the two games besides the core gameplay loop of "read the newspaper, buy stocks" and having the same developer/publisher, so I made the executive decision not to put details of The Money Game II: Kabutochou no Kiseki in the Bob, and didn't start a regional differences section. If anyone wants to disagree with me and add info about the Japanese title, go ahead, however I would strongly argue that this game is more akin to a "western spinoff" than a localization. Yeah I agree with you, however, it all depends on how similar the programming code is to the Japanese version. If someone more knowledgeable looks through the game's code and sees that the strings that control how the game works are the same between versions, then that means the US version is a reskin of the Japanese version and then it does count as a regional difference. But looking at it just visually, it feels more like SOFEL made a 3rd The Money Game exclusively for the US market. ReyVGM (talk) 06:37, 21 September 2023 (UTC)
