Text extraction notes, etc.

The direct links from the ScummVM forums post linked in the todo are all dead, but the one for the BMS script has a saved archive.org version. Running the script provided there (use the version furthest down in the thread) on the game's .prj file (e.g., rtzcd.prj in the CD version from the Internet Archive) outputs all the game text (in the files with MEN_ in the name), as well as some other stuff I don't know the proper file format/decryption for (possibly graphics, going by the discussion in that forum thread?)

Some text files of particular note, formatted to add linebreaks:

Death messages.

Death messages, annotated with some usage context (per old death compilation vids on youtube).

Location names, as in photograph labels.

Object names.

Inventory-examining descriptions.

Action result messages.

And another couple of potentially-useful links:

A Word doc covering a good bit of the extracted text, from the same source as the design docs linked in the todo.

Context notes for various text, including voice lines, randomly stored on an unrelated Mega Man subwiki for some reason? Sure, why not, lol

I don't have the familiarity with the game or technical knowledge needed to do much more with this, but hopefully it's enough of a starting point to help out anyone who does? --Zyxyz (talk) 13:11, 23 March 2024 (UTC)
