Unused Music
MSD_STR_SPACEWORLD
To do: Upload a rip of the sequenced version. |
This audio stream of the music from the demo-play video is never loaded by the game, as all of the sounds and music are part of the video itself. This audio stream is referred to as MSD_STR_SPACEWORLD, which is likely due to the music being used in the game's reveal trailer at Nintendo's Spaceworld 2001 conference. There is also a sequenced version of this, referred to as MSD_BGM_TITLEBACK, which is slightly different in that the percussion intro is missing, the percussion and guitar are completely mono, all of the accordion parts are panned slightly to the left and have a weird effect applied to them, the steel drum is also panned to the left, and all of the instruments are mixed differently to be louder or quieter. The track also appeared in the sound player from Super Mario 3D All-Stars with the name Opening Demo, though it lacks the percussion intro as well.
Pinna Park Merry Go Round Unused Tracks
To do: Figure out how to both unmute the software and set the correct instruments to get an ingame playback, and find the correct instruments that this would have used if available. |
In Pinna Park, the Yoshi Go Round or Merry Go Round contains multiple unused sequenced tracks. Tracks 2 and 7 are both muted by software, and contain invalid instruments. They can be viewed in an emulator for SMS's sound engine.
MSD_BGM_BOSSPAKU_DEMO
The "BOSSPAKU" part of the name implies this was related to Petey Piranha, as his internal name is "BossPakkun", and "DEMO" implies this was for a cutscene. The sequence is named t_bosspakkun_, and uses some instruments located in its own unused sound bank.
Yoshi Drums
Several music tracks in the game have accompanying drum tracks meant to play when Mario is riding Yoshi but are used for stages that don't have Yoshi at all, and thus are never heard. It is not known whether these were meant to be used, or are just a result of the developers being thorough when creating the audio assets.
Casino Delfino
Yoshi only appears in Hotel Delfino in Episode 3, and not in either of the episodes that feature the Casino.
Noki Bay
Yoshi does not appear in Noki Bay at all. If Yoshi were to be hacked into the stage, the track wouldn't play when mounting Yoshi as it's missing the call to instrument bank 0 to load the instrument.
Pianta Village Festivities
No drums play during the Pianta's music, even if Mario is riding Yoshi. Even the stage's normal drum track fades out. This was likely intentional, as the music is a performance by the Piantas rather than ordinary background music.
Secret Courses
Although two Secret Courses require Yoshi to enter, Yoshi does not enter the stage with Mario.
Sirena Beach
Yoshi is only playable in Episode 3, and is only available inside the hotel, rendering the beach's drum track unused. This track is only leftover in v1.00 of the Japanese release and was removed in later revisions.
Delfino Airstrip
Yoshi does not appear in Delfino Airstrip during the beginning sequence. You can return there after the end of the game, but it uses the Delfino Plaza music, and Yoshi still doesn't appear there anyway.
Some information about the Delfino Airstrip Yoshi track: Delfino Airstrip's Yoshi track is track ID 10, but in all of the other music it's track ID 15. The samples for the track are not in the audio bank Delfino Airstrip uses, but rather in an unused audio bank; So if they were to be put in the Delfino Airstrip audio bank, it would play without being muted. This Yoshi track also uses a unique instrument that none of the other Koji Kondo Yoshi tracks use, being instrument 230 instead of 120.
Spaceworld Beat
The beginning of the Spaceworld theme is found in wScene_0, and of course is never used. It's used as a sample in the sequenced version of the Spaceworld theme.
Unheard Music Portion
The music played during Pianta Village Episode 6 loops near the end of the song, skipping a few extra seconds of the beat.
Mario
Ciao
This audio track is included in the sound bank for the beginning sequence when the game is turned on, w1stLoad_0. It has a 1/8 chance of playing during the startup of the game, replacing the coin sound. However, since the game's RNG seed initializes as 0, it never plays.

Doors
Mario talking about doors while sounding very tired and out of breath. These audio tracks only play when pressing B while Mario is walking through specific sides of specific doors at low health. While technically used, these sounds are impossible to hear in normal gameplay without cheats. This is because the only two doors this obscure feature works on are one of the doors in the test map, and one specific side of one single door in Hotel Delphino that is locked in every act.

Entering 'M' Grafitti
This is an early sound Mario made when entering an 'M' Graffiti Stage which can be heard in the demo movie and opening demo. It's also played when Mario sinks into goop via an unused pollution effect.
