Spyro Reignited Trilogy remakes the purple dragon's first three games, now with 50% more flossing!

Not unlike a certain other triad of remakes, it's also the first time they've been multiplatform releases: initially debuting on the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, with Switch and PC ports following about a year later. This page focuses on the PC version.

Unused Model

An early model for Sparx, which appears to be more in line with its classic design... except higher on the uncanny scale. This model has three animations: "Chomp_Topdown" (for when he eats a butterfly), "Idle_Topdown" (for when he is idle), and "Run_Topdown" (for when he dashes). These animations, along with the mention of "topdown", indicate that this model was once a placeholder for the one used in the Sparx-only levels found in the third game.

Unused Graphics

In the games' directory labelled "Falcon/Plugins/UserInterface/Textures" are a few graphics which didn't quite made the cut:

A render of Sparx as he appears in Spyro: Enter the Dragonfly, internally labelled as "UI_Sparx_001". Its intended use is unknown.

Found among the difficulty graphics is this artwork of a sheep internally labeled "UI_Difficulty_001". While the final game doesn't have a way to change the difficulty, it's likely this was intended for an "Easy" difficulty setting.

Found in the games' "Falcon/Content/Cursors" directory is this unused cursor graphic which looks more like a standard mouse cursor, while the final one is an animated, shining prism with Sparx next to it. Both the used and unused version are labelled "DefaultPointer", with the unused one having the .cur extension and the used one the .ani extension.

Spyro the Dragon

While this line is used in the intro cutscene, it is baked into a video file. The fact that this line exists independently of the FMV suggests that this cutscene may have originally been done in-game.
Artisans Homeworld Nestor Thank you for releasing me, Spyro. Free 10 dragons in the Artisan World, then find Marco, the balloonist. He'll transport you to the next world.
An alternate take of Nestor's line where he mentions the balloonist by his name, Marco. In the final version, Marco is not referred to by name.
Tomas Hey Spyro! Press the Jump button twice to glide, and then press the Action button at the end of your glide to hover. And... uh... and don't be afraid.
In the final game hovering is limited to the second and third games, and as expected Tomas' dialogue is the same as in the original.
Toasty Nevin Be careful Spyro! This boss has many tricks up his sleeve.
An alternate take of Nevin's line where, similar to the original game, Toasty is only referred to as "this boss". In the final version, Nevin refers to Toasty by name.
Dr. Shemp Trondo This guy thinks he's sooo cool. You don't know what it's been like listening to him over and over, but I'll tell you one thing: he should watch his back.
An alternate take of Trondo's dialogue. While in the original game he does refer to Dr. Shemp simply as "this guy", the final Reignited version of this line actually mentions Dr. Shemp by name.

Spyro 2: Ripto's Rage!

Autumn Plains Moneybags Sorry Spyro, but it looks like you don't have enough cash to activate this speedway portal. I bet you spent all your money on those flirtatious Fauns in Fracture Hills, eh? You always were a sucker for a pretty face.
From the original game. This line was replaced with a less suggestive variant in which Moneybags claims Spyro was spending money on "fanciful frivolities".
Magma Cone Chedda the Faun Here we are on the night of the big party, and we don't have anything to celebrate with. If you could fly, maybe you could do something about it.
An unused line left over from the original game. Can actually be heard if the player avoids killing two enemies, but since the level design is the same as it was before that means players are very likely to miss this unless they're deliberately going out of their way to avoid Earthshapers on the path, which is tricky.
Metropolis Inventor Droid I've successfully developed a super powerup, Spyro... knock off just a few more enemies and you can be the first ever to use it!
Another unused line left over from the original game. Unlike the other, this one can't be heard as the unavoidable self-destructing enemies in this level count towards the kill total, making it impossible to reach the powerup gate without defeating any enemies.

Spyro: Year of the Dragon

The infamous "illegal copy" spiel was re-recorded, but there doesn't seem to be any way of activating it this time. Even modding the game doesn't make this clip play.
Sheila Thanks for freeing me. Why don't you come visit me in my home world?

Sunny Villa Hunter This is the most fun I've had since we chased King Flippy on the manta ray!

Midday Gardens Zoe Excellent work, Sparx, I see that you've gained another new ability. Spyro, if you hold down the treasure button combination Sparx will point to any treasure still hanging around.
A leftover from the original game which goes unused since Sparx's ability to point to treasure is unlocked from the start. Plus, Sparx's treasure-finding ability is activated by pressing down on the left analog stick in this game (or P on the keyboard), as opposed to pressing all four shoulder buttons at once as it was before.

Enchanted Towers Jasper And now, for my latest experiment... 'Blast Sculpting!' I shall attempt to carve an image of you with a single explosive detonation.

Don't worry about me, I'm just gathering my thoughts- eh, let's see... I was working on the plans, some ninjas appeared... and then everything gets fuzzy.
Midnight Mountain Zoe That last egg must have had some extra magic because it gave Sparx TWO new abilities. Now he can break open treasure chests, and, using the Atlas, warp you to any level you want.
Another leftover from the original game which goes unused since the ability to warp using the Guidebook is unlocked from the start.

Unused Videos

In the games' movie directory ("Falcon\Content\Movies") are seven test videos in .mp4 format, which, unsurprisingly, go unused:

An image of an annoyed Spyro with the words "Cinematic Placeholder" zooming onto the image as a tone plays consecutively. Has a duplicate in the PS4 release, curiously labeled "c_spyro03_intro_combined" - each part of Spyro 3's intro cinematic are their own separate cutscenes in the final game.

A minute-long test video, a tone repeating every second.

introloadingbar

A loading bar video that doesn't play unless the intro logo cinematics are deleted or renamed. This gets used in the console versions, however. Has 3 additional variations with differing levels of gamma correction, labelled "introloadingbar_gamma", "introloadingbar_gamma_1.9", and "introloadingbar_gamma_2.2".

Oddities

  • The graphics for Sparx's health bar used in the third game's Sparx levels are all internally labelled as "UI_Difficulty_002", with the later two having "Blue" and "Green" after the "002". Seeing how they are found after the unused sheep graphic (see #Unused Graphics) then they may have been intended for a "Normal" difficulty setting (or at the very least only the golden/standard version of Sparx).
  • While most other dialogue oddities from the original second game were fixed, Widgie the Icebuilder's namedrop of "Colossus Valley" still remains.
  • In the original Spyro: Year of the Dragon, Sparx referred to Honey Speedway as "Honeycomb Speedway". This was not corrected in Reignited.
  • In the original version of Spyro: Year of the Dragon, Fireworks Factory contains an unused cave near the start of the level that contains a 1-up butterfly jar. The cave is no longer part of the level geometry in the remake, but the jar was inexplicably not removed and is left floating in the void.
