Sega Rally 2 (Arcade)
Sega Rally 2 |
---|
Developer: Sega This game has unused music. |
Sega Rally 2 follows on from the 1995 classic with the renewed Model 3 hardware, a car roster more than double the size of the one of the previous game (in which the famous Delta HF Integrale and Celica GT-Four ST205 pair returns, hidden behind a set of all but weird unlock criteria) and an all-new selection of tracks. It received home ports of often said to be controversial quality to Windows and the Dreamcast in 1999, adding a whole slew of bonus content.
Also, GAME OVER YEAH!
Unused Sounds
To do:
|
Sound effects are present in ICs 22 and 24 (as 11 KHz raw audio, conveniently in alphabetical order!), and there are a fair few that are not used in gameplay. Some of these would later be used in the home versions of the game.

Regional Differences
The attract sequence song "Go! Go! Sega Rally" has (a rather cheesy set of) vocals in the Japanese version of the game, while the overseas version uses the instrumental version (named "Go! Go! Sega Rally-INST" by the sound test in the home ports) used on the Riviera track on all versions. The vocal version remains in the ROM of the Western version, rendering it unused.

In addition, in the Japanese version of the game, when the Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution and Toyota Corolla are shown prominently on the screen, the names of Japanese Asia-Pacific Rally Championship drivers Yoshihiro Kataoka and Yoshio Fujimoto are shown below the name of their respective cars.
Revisional Differences
To do:
|
The original version of the game (then exclusive to the Deluxe cabinet) features different liveries on two cars, both based on the 1997 WRC season: the Ford Escort has its orange, white and dark blue Repsol livery, while the Toyota Corolla lacks its MoviStar branding on the front bumper and fenders. The paint jobs were changed to their more well-known Ford/Valvoline and MoviStar-branded versions, respectively, with a ROM update introduced with the twin type cabinet, to correspond to the new liveries in the then-current season.
Sound Test Oddity
For some odd reason, "Big Sur", the high score screen music, is present twice in the BGM section, even more interestingly both times as BM_RESULT
.
