Puzzle de Pon! is a Taito-approved clone of Puzzle Bobble.

"If I had a nickel for every color-matching puzzle game released in the year 1995 that had the words 'de Pon' in its name, I'd have two nickels. Which isn't a lot, but it's weird that it happened twice, right?"

Alternate Title Graphics

There are unused tiles at the end of the graphic data for an alternate title for the game, called "Puzzle Buster". The palette used here is not the correct one. These graphics are also present in the sequel, Puzzle de Pon R.

The tiles were probably meant to be used as a replacement title at one point, possibly for an US version of the game (which is still just called Puzzle de Pon!). Presumably, the title can be a reference of the original US title of (the B-System version of) Puzzle Bobble, Bubble Buster. Based on the position of the title in the images above, a title screen layout can be reconstructed:
