What is this?

Can you clarify exactly what version of Grand Theft Auto 2 this is? Is it the demo version or is there a real prototype floating around? --Shenyang (talk) 00:08, 8 July 2019 (EDT)

I can assure you that there is no other prototype rather than this. --Abadbutgoodusername (talk) 17:48, 18 August 2019 (EDT)

Fixing the article

Currently I've published the link on where to get the demo & ever since I've, and other people have been expanding on this. But for possible editors, here's a "To-do" list;

  • Some inaccessible files I can't open

That is currently all--Abadbutgoodusername (talk) 18:12, 18 August 2019 (EDT)

Reasons This Page Sucks

Since you completely reverted my changes from last night, I'm going to put this here.

  • You can barely run the demo and are treating it as some rare and mysterious prototype. It's a publicly released demo from a month before release, not a unicorn.
  • You're listing things that are actually used by the demo (like the "bellyful of explosives" mission briefing) as unused. Just looking at a Youtube video of the demo running would show you that it's used.
  • Listing publicly intended documentation (readme etc.) as unused content for some goddamn reason.
  • Declaring the in-game mission briefing (which, again, is used) as NSFL when that tag is intended for things like depictions of real-life gore, sexual violence etc.
  • Using the "prototype" tag, intended for games that were cancelled and never released, for the public demo of a game that came out a month later and sold millions of copies. That's not what it's for.
  • Other misc. demonstrations of having no goddamn clue what you're doing (Opening TGA images in Notepad? WTF?)

Above all, stop being inaccurate. We're trying to be informative and factual here, and half of your page has no connection to reality. Stop it! -TheKins (talk) 05:12, 31 July 2020 (UTC)

Reasons why this page isn't broken

I get you find this article "violently inaccurate", but you basically cut a leg off of the whole article. So, reasons why this page isn't broken:

  • This hasn't been documented on TCRF before, thus it can be treated as a rare prototype
  • The "readme" is unused and counts as a developer message
  • The "interesting theory" thingamajig can stay for now
  • I'm not familiar with .tga files, so I opened it with notepad expecting code
  • The "unused high score system" actually exists within the game's files, but is defunct
  • NSFL can fit in this article as suicide bombing *results* in gore
  • The "unreleased" template can also be used for games that haven't been updated anymore
  • No, this article isn't trashy--a lighter insult is that this article has newly been started

Chiming in a bit, but some of your arguments don't really make much sense, sorry.
  • The fact that it isn't documented one particular site doesn't mean much, especially in terms of rarity. It can be literally found on Rockstars own site free to download for everybody.
  • Regarding the readme, it says it right there in the filename - "Read Me", they 100% expected someone to quickly and easily find it and of course read it. It's not like the readme was hidden from the public eye, forcing you to dig through a ton of files and folders to find it, the readme is dropped as a shortcut in the start menu folder along with the main executable and other stuff.
  • The .TGAs are just textures for the main menu... Absolutely no relation to "events in-game" as you've written on the main page.
  • What do you mean by games that haven't been updated anymore? How exactly is that in any way related to the word Unreleased? Look at the 1st sentence in the template below, never completed and/or given a public release. GTA 2 was clearly completed and had a public release in late 1999 and early 2001.
This game was stuffed away in a cardboard box and found 30 years later in a garage
This game was never completed and/or given a public release.
As a result of this, keep in mind that the developers might have used or deleted some of the content featured here, had the game actually been released.

I meant the demo itself, not the full game, okay? And a readme counts as a developer message because its, while not deep in the game files, is in the game files. And because everybody and their grandmother complains about the NSFL tag, I'll just bump it down to a NSFW tag, ok? -Abadbutgoodusername2 (talk) 19:41, 31 July 2020 (UTC)
If you add the readme OR NSFW tag again I'm going to block you from the wiki, period. You're not the owner of this damn article, stop acting like it. --Rusty (talk) 20:03, 31 July 2020 (UTC)
(Assuming the 1st sentence is referring to the unreleased tag) It isn't meant to be used on a Proto page. Even if using your logic, the demo was still released as it is still available on Rockstars website. Unreleased means it never had a final build and release date, never put up on store shelves, disregarding how early or late of a build of a game it is.

The Cinematic

I'm sorry, I know this article is incomplete but this line doesn't make much sense to me:

however in the prototype it's part of the full game, meaning that it doesn't show when you start the game, nor during your playthrough.

Maybe its because english is not my first language but I don't understand how the fact the full video is included in the demo affects on why it doesn't show during the game, maybe the person who wrote this didn't word it correctly? --Space Crawler (talk) 15:17, 28 February 2022 (UTC)
