Notes: A lot of things need to be added, some final screenshots to compare with the prototype, rewording, etc.

The 0524 Prototype build of Knuckles in Sonic 2 is the earliest known prototype that was dumped.

The KNUCKLES THE ECHIDNA IN banner above the title screen doesn't exist yet, but the title screen still descends to make room. The PRESS START text is slightly lower than the final. Graphics for the banner do exist in the ROM however, even though they go unused.

Chaos Emerald result screens in the prototype don't mention Knuckles anywhere.


Sonic 2 Leftovers

Level Select: A + Start at Title Screen.
Debug Mode: A + Start while selecting a level from Level Select.

When Knuckles turns Super, he uses Super Sonic's palette in the 0524 prototype. The final uses the palette from Sonic & Knuckles.

After the super form wears off, Knuckles reverts back to Sonic's palette. In the final, this is fixed.

Oddities

An example of this demo behavior.
  • Knuckles acts erratically in the demos.
  • In Casino Night Zone Act 1, using the left flipper to go to the top left corner of the map will make the game freeze.
    Though, you can avoid this by holding Left while rising from the flipper.
