SOMETIMES I SEE A TEXT BOX AND I JUST CAN'T HELP MYSSDFGFFDHFGDJGGFSHGDFH
This page sucks.
If you could make it suck less, that would be awesome.
Specifically: Very few comparisons, low resolution/few images, and pretty basic overall.
Careful, you'll lose an eye.
This page or section needs more images.
There's a whole lotta words here, but not enough pictures. Please fix this.
Hmmm...
To do:
Needs more information and comparisons, also document leaked licensee build dated 2014.

Before Portal 2's official release, most players could preload and play the game on their platforms. The build files originated from the game preload DVD. This build is nearly identical to the final build, with only a few known differences. This build is dated March 9th, 2011, 40 days before the game was released.

Differences

General

Boot-Up Screen

The most obvious difference is the absence of the game's logo. A loading text also appears in this build which is removed in the final game besides the Nintendo Switch port.

Main Menu

Hmmm...
To do:
  • There's probably more, considering this is a dynamic title screen (at least in the final).
Preload Final (Initial release)

  • The main menu is way different than the final game.
  • The "Extras" and "Robot Enrichment Store" buttons on the main menu are missing.

Gameplay

  • A pre-release disclaimer watermark exists during gameplay that says PRERELEASE BUILD DO NOT DISTRIBUTE.
  • The Underground Paint Dropper model was high poly.
  • Game save indicator appears when game is being autosaved, which would be scrapped later in final release on PC (but not consoles).
