Proto:Nintendo DS/ver.040615
This is a sub-page of Proto:Nintendo DS.
This was documented on Forest of Illusion.
A prototype version of the Nintendo DS firmware dated June 15, 2004 (or ver.040615 in the settings) was released online by Forest of Illusion on November 24, 2022. This version predates ver.40820D, and contains no main menu or basic Download Play menu. Instead, the boot logo is still the one used by the Game Boy Advance but with a black background, and it will fade away and boot you to the console's settings. On top of that, only one screen is used at a time.
This page will detail the differences between this build and ver.40820D. See that page for detailed info on all of the available features.
NITRO Settings
The NITRO SETTINGS has remained the same throughout its revisions, though there's a couple of differences.
- There are two timers at the bottom right that monitor for how long the console has been running.
- WIRELESS DOWNLOAD (aka Download Play) is available through this menu, though there's not much to see, and it still doesn't seem to connect. Text reading "NOW MAKING..." is all that is ever displayed.
- USER INFORMATION is here named OWNER INFORMATION.
- Under OWNER INFORMATION is a scrapped setting not present in the final firmware: selecting a blood type (A, B, AB and O). This feature is commonly seen in Japanese localized games whenever the player is asked to fill out their name, gender, etc. However, since not all software would've used this setting (or any international software for that matter), it was scrapped, and games for the Nintendo DS that did ask for your blood type have that setting baked into the game itself.
- There's also no option to set a user color.
- In the LANGUAGE option, French is misspelled as Flench.
- There's no AUTO BOOT setting. The console always bypasses the settings if something is inserted in Slot-1.
Misc
- There's no initial setup screen if no save data exists. The console just boots like normal and creates save data when a setting is changed.
- The firmware can't seem to boot into any Slot-1 carts and freezes upon loading.
