...Well, all the articles here are, in a way. But this one moreso, and the article may contain incomplete information and editor's notes.

Build 1427 of Midtown Madness was dropped off on the Midtown Club Discord server on August 25th 2024, and it's the earliest build known to exist of this game. It's also a debug build, like the one found in the Sneak Preview Beta. Exciting!

There are a lot more interesting textures leftover from various phases of development that need to be documented.

Debug Features

Debugging features are enabled when pressing the CTRL+ALT+SHIFT+F4 key combination.

The debugging features present with this build likely match with Proto:Midtown_Madness/Sneak_Preview_Beta, though more research is needed.

Interface

  • The interface is partway through a transition to it's final version
  • A couple menus still retain their old buttons

Early Menu Icons

There are several early menu icons leftover. Implying there was once an even earlier UI design before the leftover one present in this build. These menu icons also reveal an earlier design for the Cadillac Eldorado, as well as the way dashboards were designed.

Tracks

  • There are nine tracks stored in the build's files:
    • C46 is the 46th revision of the city, and is the playable city the game loads into.
    • C45 is the 45th revision of the city, with it's entire model leftover.
    • C44 is the 44th revision of the city, with it's entire model leftover.
    • C42 is the 42nd revision of the city, with it's entire model leftover.
    • C36 is the 36th revision of the city, with it's entire model leftover.
    • CHICAGO is an unknown revision of the city, with it's entire model leftover.
    • RACETRACK2 is a test track, with it's entire model leftover.
    • RACETRACK7 is a test track, with it's entire model leftover.
    • RACETRACK8 is a test track, with only it's collision files leftover.
