This page details one or more prototype versions of Meteos Wars.

A prototype of Meteos Wars was retrieved from PartnerNET servers and released by ObscureGamers on July 8, 2022, as part of TeraRelease 3.0, and also includes an early version of the both of the game's downloadable packs. The .xex executable is dated September 11, 2008, which is a little over two months before the final build (November 23, 2008).

Text Differences

Overall

  • There's no pre-game loading screen.
  • The demo functionality has not been implemented yet.
  • There is no music nor sound effects in the main menu.
  • Geolyte is the only planet that has complete data in the main game's files. Because of this, the game crashes upon entering the planet selection menu or when trying to see planet data from the Meteos Book. Despite this, parameter files for every planet except for the four new ones (Darthvega, Hanihula, Gelyer and Ranbarumba) can be found.
  • Wiral is the only planet that has complete data in the Planet Pack DLC, while Hotted is the only one that has it in the Galaxy Pack.

Graphical Differences

Assets

  • There are many placeholder achievement icons in the root of the main game's package. While only one is shown, they are labeled from 1 to 12.

  • The game's boxart and background graphics are placeholders.

Music Differences

Geolyte

  • The DOWN0B sound, which plays when a falling Meteo lands, is louder in the prototype.
  • The FANG0A sound, which plays when launching a very small stack, is much quieter in the prototype.
  • The MOVE01, MOVE02 and MOVE03 sounds, which play when moving the cursor, are louder in the prototype.
  • The CLEAR0, CLEAR1 and CLEAR2 sounds, which play when a Meteo is sent off-screen, are completely different.

Sound Effects

  • Many of the sound effects are louder compared to the final game. They're also in stereo rather than mono.
  • The DANGER sound effect, which plays when a column is filled, is completely different.

Hotted (Galaxy Pack)

Hotted's Sound Set in the prototype data is an early version of Anasaze's final Sound Set. In fact, internally, the .xwb and .xsb files are labeled under Anasaze's planet ID (03).

  • Most sounds are much quieter in the early version.
  • Many of the FANG sounds have been shuffled around. Only the old version of FANG3C is an unique sound.

Planet Parameters
May or may not include data from an obscure and discontinued installment.

Planet Impacts

Each planet's Planet Impact are configured by the files in gameparam\skill. Given this, some planets, all of them being downloadable content in the final game, use different Planet Impacts, as noted below:

  • Wiral, Thirnova, and Suburbion use Sentinel instead of Tempest.
  • Brabbit uses Tempest instead of Gambit.
  • Yooj uses Gambit instead of Sentinel.
  • Vubble and Megadom use Tempest instead of Sentinel.
  • Hotted uses Tempest intead of Armageddon.
  • Arod uses Armageddon instead of Gambit.
  • Wuud uses Sentinel instead of Armageddon.

Timestamps

The timestamps in the mtp2 files differ between this prototype and the final game:

  • Base Game
    • Unknown, Geolyte, Anasaze, Oleana, Firim
      September 6, 2008 - 10:09:52
    • All other planets
      September 6, 2008 - 10:09:53
    • Wuud, Megadom, Dejeh, Gigagush, Suburbion, Vubble
      September 6, 2008 - 10:09:54
  • Planet Pack
    • Wiral
      August 6, 2008 - 02:35:57
  • Galaxy Pack
    • Hotted
      August 20, 2008 - 05:24:50

Barring the different timestamps, the content of the .mtp2 files between the early DLC data and the prototype base game is the same.
