Early 2015 Portraits
These portraits are from early 2015, and all share the same art style. There is a base portrait for each, accompanied by eye and mouth overlays. Ryuji's portrait and a close-up of Ann's eyes can be seen in the first trailer for Persona 5, which was released in February 2015. These portraits were far more animated, as can be seen in the trailer. Ryuji's portrait is fully animated with a head tilt back that eventually lands on the idle portrait leftover in the game. All of the eye and mouth overlays have been applied to the base in separate versions below for easier viewing. The last portrait in each set is the character's used portrait, displayed for comparison. The protagonist doesn't have any conversational portraits in this style, so there's no comparison available for him. The final game uses a traditional portrait setup, very similar to Persona 4: Dancing All Night.

These additional portraits for Ryuji don't entirely match the 2015 art style. The blinking frames for the first portrait are the same as the base. The second portrait is much closer to the final compared to the 2015 design.

Three early portraits for Sugimura. The main artwork is identical to final, but each early portrait is missing the core shading and coloring features. The early portraits also contain more of Sugimura's body at the bottom than the final versions.
Daily Life Portraits
Unused portraits of Ryuji blushing. Expression exists for all his portraits except his swimsuit, Destinyland, and Phantom Thief wear.
Unused portraits of Yusuke being irritated. This expression exists for all his portraits except his Phantom Thief wear.
Unused Portraits of Wakaba Isshiki, Futaba's mother. Later used in Persona 5 Royal.
Unused Black Mask Portraits
An unused portrait of Goro Akechi smiling in his Black Mask armor. While he does smile while wearing his Black Mask armor in-game, there's no dialogue during the instance. This portrait and its corresponding parts do not exist in the PlayStation 4 version of the game.
Another unused portrait for Goro's Black Mask armor shows him panicking.
Unused Twins Portraits
A group of pictures of Caroline without her eyepatch... for some reason. These images also exist in the PS4 version of the game.
Justine, also without her eyepatch. Just like her Twin, these images are also left over in Persona 5's PS4 version.

An early portrait of Skull matching the 2015 portrait style. Has various duplicates, was likely used as a placeholder for portraits before they were made.
Palace Ruler Portraits
Portraits for all the Palace Rulers. Part of an unused mechanic where Palace Rulers would talk after things like a battle ending from an enemy escaping. There are no portraits for Futaba.
- Kamoshida
- Madarame
- Kaneshiro
Notably uses an early design where his shadow lacks purple skin. This design can be found in beta builds of the game.
- Okumura
- Sae
- Shido
Lacks an "unrevealed" portrait as the Shadow ones use his pre-boss form Shadow design.
Unused Cut-In Portrait
Goro Akechi has an unused cut-in image. Judging from the facial expression, it is likely this was meant to be used for the cognitive double of Goro encountered in Shido's Palace. This cut-in portrait later ended up being used in Persona 5 Royal for the first battle alongside Akechi in Maruki's Palace, though his smile is hidden out of frame.
