So very stubbly.
This page is rather stubbly and could use some expansion.
Are you a bad enough dude to rescue this article?

Custom File Types

Hmmm...
To do:
  • .nav, .skl, .def and .anm are also used by the game, if these are not exclusive to this game then document them here instead.
  • Also recommend any programs that open these files.

Duke Nukem Forever employs a series of custom file types for some of its assets.

  • .dnf - Used for maps. This file type is also used in older builds of the game for maps, such as the 2001 Builds.
  • .msh - Stands for Mesh, used for models with animations like NPCs and enemies.
  • .smsh - Stands for Static Mesh, used for models without animations like props and hats.

Lee Jackson Credits

"Grabbag - Lenoman Band Version" (MUS_LenomanGrabbag.mp3) and "Lenoman Theme" (MUS_LenomanTheme.mp3) have additional soundtrack information about them. They have credits to Lee Jackson, the composer of Duke Nukem 3D and the "Grabbag" theme.

The songs are attributed to have been made in 2002, 9 years before the final game would ship.

Things That Seem To Be Unused But Aren't

Giving Duke Nukem Forever's infamous development hell, its not too surprising that a lot of content would get dropped. Some content might look like its unused at first but is in fact used.

  • Duke_BallsOfSteel_01.mp3 - Audio of Duke saying, "I've got balls of steel". This voice line isn't heard in the campaign but is used with the in-game soundboard extra.
