The European title, Ninja Cop, pretty much sums up the whole game right there. Ninja Cop. Seriously.

Unused Graphics

The game contains unused code for displaying a Hudson logo screen, similar to the Konami logo screen that appears before the opening cutscene. The screen is followed by the opening cutscene, which means that the screen would've been displayed either after the Konami logo or in its place.

Unused Ninja Face

There's an unused version of the ninja face graphic that appears in the ending cutscene. The image uses darker colors and lacks the star symbol on the ninja's forehead.

Unused Player Sprites

There's an unused version of the player's idle animation where the ninja is wearing a blue wristband.

Unused Boss Silhouettes

The game contains graphics with red silhouettes of characters on a black background, and code for playing Shadow Master's laughing sound and displaying a different silhouette depending on the current mission. The silhouettes are likely meant to represent the game's bosses because the missions where you fight Shadow Master use the same silhouette.

Based on their location in the ROM, these would have possibly been used as a part of the level intros that play before missions.

Unused Characters in Font Sets

Hmmm...
To do:
Rip these.

Though the game was only released in English, some of its fonts contain symbols intended for other European languages.

Unused Translations

Hmmm...
To do:
  • Document what is translated and what isn't.

The game has unused German and French translations. They are incomplete and much of the text is still in English or placeholders. You can change the game's language by editing the byte at 30020AC (00=English, 01=French, 02=German).

Language Selection Screen

There's an unused language selection screen. As the selected option is changed by pressing up and down on the D-pad, the language variable changes. After confirming the choice by pressing A, the game will continue to the Konami logo screen.

The code doesn't load a background image so it's not known whether the background is supposed to be black.

Early Level Intro Texts

When the language is not set to English, the level intro texts are replaced by what appear to be early draft versions of the texts. Notably the early version has a different story for the last level, which also explains why the level is called "Launch Site".

Unused Bad Ending

There's an unused cutscene related to the early level intro text of Launch Site. The cutscene shows a timer reaching zero followed by a missile launching towards the city that appears in the opening cutscene. After the city has been obliterated the game continues to the end credits. The cutscene would've likely played when the player ran out of time or died in the final level.

The background music of the cutscene is also otherwise unused.

Unused Level Objects

The game ends after the first three levels when played on easy difficulty, but by hacking the game it's possible to access the later levels on easy difficulty. Doing so shows that like the earlier levels, the cave and base levels have a different set of enemies and other objects for easy difficulty despite not being playable on easy.
