This game is defunct. Do note the game no longer works at all without modifications. This is most likely due to the game's servers being shut down. As a result, further official developments with the game are unlikely to happen.

The News Channel was a channel to look at the latest news. Once again, just like the Forecast Channel, you could check the latest news headlines by spinning the Earth until it shatters!

This channel was discontinued on June 28, 2013. However, it is possible to restore all functionality (albeit using current news data) by installing the RiiConnect24 Homebrew mod.

Wii Menu Icon

On the first version of the News Channel, the icon would be white, then fade to green.

When the second version of this Channel was released, Nintendo only used the green icon and the headlines would show on the Wii Menu.

Errors

The error messages were changed when the Channel was updated.

Unused Music

To do: Upload a standard audio file rather than a YouTube video.

This is a song that would be layered over the main background music, supposedly when reading news. It plays asynchronously to the main background music. The volume of this track is set to 0 inside the Channel's BRSAR file, therefore it cannot be heard. It could have been cut because people would find background music too distracting to hear when reading an article.

Unused Featured News Section

The News Channel has a field in the data file that allows room for a featured news section. The button to send you to the main sections, however, scrolls all the way to the bottom of the list...
