Unused Players
Steven Tyler
The lead singer of Aerosmith was at one point planned to appear as a secret player. A button combo exists to unlock him, but his initials are dummied out with backspace characters, so he cannot be unlocked by normal means.
However, through the use of Pro Action Replay (PAR) codes, he can be accessed. Just enter one of the following at the title screen:
- 7E169F7A, 7E16A000 (1st Player of Team 1)
- 7E16A17A, 7E16A200 (2nd Player of Team 1)
- 7E16A37A, 7E16A400 (1st Player of Team 2)
- 7E16A57A, 7E16A600 (2nd Player of Team 2)
Tyler is in a very incomplete state, with placeholder text instead of a digitized portrait.
Additionally, his in-game head sprite looks less like the real Tyler and more like now-former Iguana UK employee Darren Hodgson, who occupied Tyler's value in the dumped prototype version of the game. Hodgson didn't have an in-game head sprite in said prototype.
Juwan Howard & Clifford Rozier
The portraits and names are all that exist of the fifth and sixteenth 1994 NBA Draft picks in the final version of the game. Their stats and in-game appearance data default to those of Mookie Blaylock.
Here are the Pro Action Replay (PAR) codes used to access them:
Howard:
- 7E169F83, 7E16A000 (1st Player of Team 1)
- 7E16A183, 7E16A200 (2nd Player of Team 1)
- 7E16A383, 7E16A400 (1st Player of Team 2)
- 7E16A583, 7E16A600 (2nd Player of Team 2)
Rozier:
- 7E169F93, 7E16A000 (1st Player of Team 1)
- 7E16A193, 7E16A200 (2nd Player of Team 1)
- 7E16A393, 7E16A400 (1st Player of Team 2)
- 7E16A593, 7E16A600 (2nd Player of Team 2)
Shaquille O'Neal
Orlando Magic center Shaquille O'Neal was cut prior to release, possibly due to the high costs of licensing him or that his likeness to use him in a console game was held by someone else. Unlike the other unused players, his data remains almost completely intact. The only thing missing is his portrait, which is a duplicate of A.C. Green's.
You can use one of these Pro Action Replay (PAR) codes to access Shaq. Keep in mind that his stats will appear as question marks using this method.
- 7E169F88, 7E16A000 (1st Player of Team 1)
- 7E16A188, 7E16A200 (2nd Player of Team 1)
- 7E16A388, 7E16A400 (1st Player of Team 2)
- 7E16A588, 7E16A600 (2nd Player of Team 2)

Unused Courtside Adverts
17 different ads exist in the game, five of which go unused.
This mock shoe ad stars Willie "Air" Morris Jr., who was one of the body models for the original arcade version. Air Morris doesn't appear in the home versions, so it wouldn't make sense to keep this.
I wonder why this was removed...could it be the improper grammar? ("Dont" instead of "Don't".)
These three ads are related to Mortal Kombat II, another game developed by Midway. These were scrapped because the NBA did not want to be associated with the controversial levels of violence in the Mortal Kombat games.
Stud Muffin
Strangely, a secret player called "Stud Muffin" requires a button code be entered, in addition to the usual initials code, before he can be unlocked. No other secret players require this.
At the first "Licensed by ..." screen, (this will be the very first screen displayed) push and hold Left + L + R.
You will not receive any confirmation that the cheat has been activated, so press and release the buttons a few times if you have to, just to get it right.
With this done, go to the "enter initials" screen and enter the following:
- Highlight "G", hold Start, press A.
- Highlight Space, hold Start, press A.
- Highlight "F", hold Start, press Y.
If all steps were done properly, you will see the standard "Secret Player" message. At the team select screen, you'll notice your player is "Stud Muffin".
Considering the 32X version has a dummied-out player named "Fischbach" in Stud Muffin's place, he is presumed to be Greg Fischbach. Fischbach is the founder and former CEO of Acclaim Entertainment, the game's publisher.
