This article is a work in progress. ...Well, all the articles here are, in a way. But this one moreso, and the article may contain incomplete information and editor's notes. |
JoJo's Bizarre Adventure: All-Star Battle R is a remaster of the original JoJo's Bizarre Adventure: All-Star Battle, in which players can battle using characters from the first 8 parts of the JoJo's Bizarre Adventure series, as well as Ikuro Hashizawa (a.k.a. Baoh) who remains from the first game.
Due to being a port of the PS3 game, it contains many unused files that remain from it, among some other things.

Speedwagon Guide Character
GuideCharParam.bin.xfbin reveals that Robert E. O. Speedwagon was originally intended to reprise his role as the guide character for the game's Mode Select menu, but he never shows up in the final version, despite the remaining data.
More evidence that this inclusion was originally intended can be seen in the unused voicelines and graphics sections.
Unused Voice-lines
Speedwagon Guide Character
In v_sys_etc.acb/awb and messageInfo.bin.xfbin, many unused voice-line audio and text for Robert E. O. Speedwagon can be found which reflect his potential role as the guide character for the game's Mode Select menu.
His audio files in v_sys_etc.acb/awb differ from that in ASB and explicitly mention the new "All-Star Battle Mode", a mode only present in ASBR. This is solid evidence that Speedwagon was considered to be the menu's guide character at some point in the game's development.

Unused Graphics
Guide Characters
Multiple guide character UI files that were present in All-Star Battle remain unused in ASBR.
Like most of ASBR's graphics, they are of higher quality than the ASB ones, but most of them otherwise go unchanged. The exception to this is Speedwagon, who was recoloured to fit his color scheme from the JoJo's Bizarre Adventure anime adaptation by David Production, suggesting that there was consideration of using this UI in ASBR.

Final Pucci Placeholder Image
Before the game even released, a placeholder image was leaked of Final Pucci's Victory Pose 2. It shows Final Pucci's old design with the first anime textures for his clothes along with the old version of Made in Heaven. The kanji "仮" translates to "temporary".
Unused Music
The full theme for the ASB story mode remains in ASBR, although unused. However, it can be certainly heard in Tournament mode before any fight occurs
Regional Differences
For versions of All-Star Battle R that allow a language toggle between Japanese and other languages, the following differences can be shown by simply switching the game language to Japanese.
Caution Screen
For the Japanese version of the game only, a unique caution message is shown featuring Robert E. O. Speedwagon. This shows before the company logos on the game's boot.
Path: data.cpk/data/ui/boot/boot_logo.xfbin/cautions.dds
Translation (unofficial): It is I, the meddlesome Speedwagon! While you're playing games, make sure the room is well-lit and that you're as far away from the TV screen as possible, you rich amateur! Plus, make sure to take 15 minute breaks for every hour you play for the sake of your own health!
These kind of caution messages are common amongst Japanese releases of video games, and typically state similar things.
Bandai Logo
For the Japanese version only, there is also a difference in the logo for Bandai Namco, with the Japanese variant only being the standalone Bandai logo.

These images are both found in boot_logo.xfbin, titled bandai.dds (Japanese ver.) and bng.dds respectively.
