Gran Turismo 2/Revisional Differences/December 22, 1999 Build

This is a sub-page of Gran Turismo 2/Revisional Differences.

This page documents data and code changes first found in the second and final Japanese release of Gran Turismo 2.

Like the December 11 build, this version tried to fix some of the issues that affected all regions as well as Japan-specific matters.

Note: The changes documented in this section are not reflected in Arcade Mode, as Japan did not receive an updated disc to match the updated GT Mode.

General Changes

Gameplay

  • The faulty code overlay that resulted in completion percentage being limited to 98.20% was fixed, so 219 events are now sufficient for 100%.
  • The infamous Max Speed Test bug, which overwrites part of the player's garage data with record entries, is finally fixed here.
  • The demo button for the first Italian Nationals event in GT Mode, which did not behave as it should in any language, is patched for good in this version.

Logo Updates

636 logo files were added to the carlogo directory, bringing the total to 3.344 files used by all three regions. A total of 20 previously used files were updated, most related to the two Volkswagen Golf GTI models - their text changed from 'GTi' to the proper 'GTI'.

Three GT League event pages contained art errors where the dark gray color of the result circles replaced the light gray of the course name bars. All three are fixed here, though the GT UK Nationals page also had a space inadvertently added to one instance of its course's name.

Like the Japan-specific replay names, North American strings were added for the European Nissan 200SXs, along with text for the Honda Integras and NSXs regularly available in the European version of GT2 (this change also affects license test briefings, as h2irn and hnsnn did get used in license tests only for that version). Unused Integra bodies had their strings blanked out and two other cars had their names changed in an attempt of removing typos.
