Carmageddon 64 is what happens when you take the well-regarded Carmageddon II: Carpocalypse Now and give it to a studio that doesn't seem to know what to do with it. The result is a very bad port, one that for some people rivals Superman 64 in terms of quality.
Crash Handler
An uncalled crash handler function exists at memory location 0x8008E2CC (US). This would have printed memory info about the crash.
Regional Differences
General
- The US version adds an additional meter to the HUD, which seems to track how far along the track you are.
- The handling and physics were tweaked between versions. Most notably, in the European version the cars are extremely slow to turn, which isn't the case in the US version.
Pedestrians
The pedestrians went from dark blue zombies with red blood in the European release, to dinosaurs with green blood in the version distributed in Germany, to light blue zombies with darker green blood in the US version.

The story was changed to accommodate the change from zombies to dinosaurs, and then got reworked back into zombies in the US version, with the text formatted differently.

Obstacles
In the European and German versions, the roadblocks were slanted, mirroring how they were on Carpocalypse Now. This was changed for the US version to plain rectangular roadblocks, perhaps to avoid players accidentally sending themselves flying off the course with them.
