Beavis and Butt-Head (Game Boy)
Beavis and Butt-Head |
---|
Developer: Torus Games[1] This game has unused code. |
The Game Boy Beavis and Butt-Head is a mediocre overhead action game with somewhat out-of-character protagonists and awful graphics.
It's probably only notable for being one of the last known Game Boy games (if not the last) to be released in English-speaking regions without Super Game Boy or Game Boy Color support.
Contents
Unused Level Select
Use Game Genie code 080-A2D-E6E to re-enable the unused stage select when booting the game. You will be able to select any stage, including the mini-game. There is an empty option at the end of the list that does nothing and causes the game to crash.
Pressing A will additionally play a sound effect one by one in increasing index values. However, there is no bounds check for these values causing it to play garbage at some point. Pressing Select will reset the index count and start from its initial value.
Unused Items
To do: Check if they are actually unused. |
Use RAM address $D780 and the appropriate index value to obtain these items in-game (replaces the first item on the list).
An item named "MEAT" with the index $08.
An item named "KEY" with the index $0A. This is different from the used JAIL KEY item that appears in the final level (index $0D).
Unused Weapons
Listed among the item names are six unimplemented weapons. Only the first two have corresponding item icons. All of these weapons are non-functional. Use the RAM address $D96D with an index value of $83 through $88 to edit the current weapon and see these weapons.
Listed as "WEAPON 3" in the game resources.
Listed as "WEAPON 4" in the game resources.
Additional unused weapons only have leftover text names:
WEAPON 5 WEAPON 6 WEAPON 7 WEAPON 8
Unused Text
To do: There might be more here. |
A few strings of placeholder text:
IMAGE, NOT BUBBLE ??? NOT ??? IMPLEMENTED PLACEHOLDER TEXT ONLY
Oddities
The game's passwords are listed in plaintext in the ROM. While the list follows the stage progression for the most part, the password for Level 2 is several lines below the rest of the password text, implying that the "Outside School" level was split off from Level 1 later in development.
