Hold either of Player 1's buttons when entering the test mode to replace it with a more expansive "Check Mode" featuring multiple options for viewing background graphics ("back chr code check"), full backgrounds ("scroll check"), sprite graphics ("sprite code check") and individual sprites/objects ("object check"). Selecting "test play" exits the test menu and starts the game.

On each individual check screen, use Player 1's joystick to select one of the available options, and buttons 1 and 2 to increase/decrease the selected option.
