Wappo 2
Wappo 2 |

Developer: Softex Digital
|
A puzzle game with 100 different levels developed by Softex Digital for Siemens mobile phones in 2005.
Revisional Differences
At least two versions are preserved: 2.0.1 and 2.0.6. Besides differences in classes, most of the game graphics are different. Version 2.0.1 was preserved in a lower resolution, so the files even with unchanged sprites are still different, but they weren't included here. The table below consists only of sprites that were redrawn. The comparisons of unused files are in the Unused Graphics section. Oddly enough, the purple enemy still has a golden sword on his diagonal movement sprites, because these weren't changed since 2.0.1. Version 2.0.6 also has some seemingly unused leftovers from 2.0.1. It's also weird, that only a few sprites of Red/Blue enemies and Wappo himself were changed.
This file is present in 2.0.1, but was removed in 2.0.6:
showafriend
And this file was added as game icon in 2.0.6:
Wicon
To do: If you by any chance still have the phone with this game or own the .jar file - consider adding the graphics to the comparison table above. |
These pictures were taken from Siemens AX75 the game was installed on by default. Looks like there's also a version of Wappo 2 where everything looked more similar to how it was in the first Wappo game. However, the version seems to be lost and there's no way to rip and compare the graphics now.
Unused Graphics
Version 2.0.6 has an unused game icon. The file gameicon.png in 2.0.1 was a duplicate of icon.png. The latter was used as both icon and a menu item. The picture itself changed since 2.0.1. Notably enough, Wappo's headband is blue on this icon, while it was red everywhere else and in 2003 game as well. Version 2.0.6 also has a version of this picture with red bandana and it's used in the main menu. 2.0.6 uses file wicon.png as game icon.

There's also some unused menu item that wasn't used in both 2.0.1 and 2.0.6. Judging by the name, it was meant for the highscore menu option, but highscore.png is used instead. For some reason, this hs.png file was changed in 2.0.6 even though it already wasn't used in 2.0.1.
