One small question

Hello! You're also interested in Psychonauts? In that case, do you know anything about Milla's nightmares subplot? Psychonauts Wiki says that there was a subplot of Milla's nightmares escaping her mind, with nightmares boss fights in Boyd's mind being a remnant of it. I also have heard that there was a boss fight with nightmares in Milla's mind that was also cut. However, I didn't find any reliable sources that could prove either of these. If you know any more info, I'd be happy to hear it. Name Not Needed (talk) 00:45, 6 August 2022 (UTC)

Hey there, yeah I've been digging into Psychonauts for a significant period of time. Regarding Milla's level, information on it is incredibly spotty and unreliable.
I cannot find a reliable source that suggests there is any truth to the idea that Milla's nightmares escaping her mind was a plot point or that the nightmares in Boyd's mind are leftover from that. However, we do know for a fact that in early versions of the level, Milla's mind itself did descend into chaos and probably had a boss fight at some point, with a major part of the level being using the (now cut) levitation PSI-poppers to save dancers from being dragged down by the demons. We know that for sure that this is the case because the evidence is not only present in the 2013 steam build scripts and in some parts in the final game's files, but we also do have at least one account of the early version of the level posted by Jake Rodkin on the idlethumbs forum: https://www.idlethumbs.net/forums/topic/2285-random-psychonauts-tidbits-possible-spoilers/?page=2&tab=comments#comment-36024
So basically - we know that Milla's level originally involved fighting the demons and saving dancers from them, and may have even had a boss fight, but I have yet to find any source that can verify any claims about Milla's demons intending to have spread to other minds and I'm not sure I believe it to be true.
This all being said, the nightmare fight in Boyd's mind probably does still reflect how the nightmares were likely fought in the original iteration and the design is certainly the same. --JillCrungus (talk) 01:41, 6 August 2022 (UTC)
Hello again! Yup, I saw that post (this is where I heard about the boss battle) and I knew about psi-poppers, but I didn't knew that these were related and that you needed to save dancers from these nightmares. If you will find anything more about Milla's nightmares or just any info on Psychonauts cut content, can you, please, share it with me? I'm also currently doing my little research on Psychonauts cut content, so I'd be happy to hear if you find something and maybe even get a direction on what exactly to search. Sure thing, though I'm not positive there's a ton left to find at the moment. There's still a lot of stuff we just don't know about the old versions of these levels and it's not looking likely that more info will come out unless someone is able to dig out some ancient videos or documents or unless a super old build of the game is found. --JillCrungus (talk) 02:28, 6 August 2022 (UTC)
Good news! I found three old E3 articles. The main thing I found is that we were supposed to enter the mind of Raz's girfriend, who is most likely Lili. The interesting things are a) it has a lot of meat inside and Girlfriend's father is stated to be a butcher, so it may have been an early version of Meat Circus (alongside with the circus level and the old fortress final level), and the idea of butcher father was given to Oleander. b) judging by descriptions and Linda boss fight, it is most likely the level we see in the E3 trailer, and not the Brain Tumbler Experiment. Another interesting thing is that our thought bubble (in which we can select powers and access inventory) was originally an itame we could pick up and use as a parachute (no, it's not an early version of Levitation, because Levitation is mentioned as a separate power) or even a landmine to damage enemies. Articles themselves: https://www.gamespot.com/articles/e3-2002psychonauts-impressions/1100-2867778/ https://mixnmojo.com/features/previews/ https://adventuregamers.com/articles/amp/17528
I have reason to believe that those articles may not have gotten the details entirely accurate, I dunno if it was misinterpreting details or if DF might've lied for the purposes of E3. You were fully intended to enter Lili's mind originally, but her mind was actually the original version of Brain Tumbler Experiment. That level was originally her nightmare (which she mentions in the final game), rather than Raz's own mind, being interfered with by the Coach's thoughts. The fight was indeed the lungfish fight from the trailer. We have almost all of the scripting for this iteration, and the prototype review build contains some of the audio in its files. I started a page on the prototype with those lines here but I haven't had much chance to make a ton of progress. Yeah, I figured out that this was an early version of Brain Tumbler. I added info on pre-release page, but I'm afraid I could mess up things due to my little overexcitment over this find, so would you mind to check if I documented things peoperly and they don't look like a mash? UPD: Thanks! Page now looks much better. Also, didn't know about the snaptrap power. Wonder what else I don't know about this game's cut content, every day I learn something new.

About Psychonauts February 2013 build

Hello again. I'm thinking to try to look through Psychonauts 2013 build (that one with leaked source code), even though I had not too much experience in it. However, sorry if it's a stupid question, but... Do you know where can I find it? Name Not Needed (talk) 16:22, 7 August 2022 (UTC)

Hey there. You can grab the scripts+textures folders of that build here: https://archive.org/details/psychonauts-20130602
Unfortunately, I've not yet had a chance to archive the "documents" folder which is also of interest though I will do that soon. --JillCrungus (talk) 20:31, 7 August 2022 (UTC)
Thanks a lot! Name Not Needed (talk) 21:16, 7 August 2022 (UTC)

Placeholders

Inside textures>collectibles folder I found some placeholders for emotional baggage, cobweb, dream fluffs etc. However, I also found something called "psi-mist". It looks like some kind of a cut collectible, or an early version of existing. Do you have any more info on what psi-mist is? Name Not Needed (talk) 21:45, 7 August 2022 (UTC)

EDIT: Also, psi-challenge marker files are named after different shapes, like "challenge marker star", "challenge marker plus", "challenge marker square" etc.

EDIT2: Actually, they seem to be different backgrounds of psi-cards. Not sure if they are used.

PSI mist I think is some kind of early health collectible or something; it's kinda hard to figure out. It's also a little confusing and it's not clear which assets in the 2013 content are just unused but still in the final game's pack files somewhere and which content is not even shipped in the game. --JillCrungus (talk) 21:53, 7 August 2022 (UTC)
I see. Also, maybe graphics for psi-poppers are worth to upload? That video shows only graphics for confusion psi-poppers. Name Not Needed (talk) 22:14, 7 August 2022 (UTC)
EDIT: I found many interesting stuff inside. For example, a screenshot of what seems to be an early version of an inventory.
It's on my personal todo list but I need to sort through and figure out which assets ship with the game and which don't so they can be organised appropriately. --JillCrungus (talk) 23:25, 7 August 2022 (UTC)
I see. Would you mind if I at least upload the textures themselves? It's quite monotonous and long, and could save some time in the future. Name Not Needed (talk) 12:59, 8 August 2022 (UTC)

Well, what I found so far

1) A screenshot of an early inventory. 2) Textures for some psi-poppers in an inventory. 3) Textures for all of the psi-poppers themselves (too bad there's no models). Files are named "grenades", which further confirms the theory that psi-poppers are prototypes of confusion grenades. 4) Pyrokinesis being referred as "fire starting" and confusion as "suppresion". 5) Old badges for Markmanship and Basic Braining (you were right). 6) Learner's badge for a shield, suggesting it was planned to be learned with a mentor. Name Not Needed (talk) 22:42, 7 August 2022 (UTC)

I don't think suppression and confusion are the same ability, I think whatever suppression was just used an edited confusion icon as a placeholder. Just speculation though, we don't know much about it. --JillCrungus (talk) 23:25, 7 August 2022 (UTC)
I see. Speaking of abilities, you mentioned snaptrap ability and ability with placeholder name "get out from my lawn". Are there any more cut or placeholder abilities? Name Not Needed (talk) 12:57, 8 August 2022 (UTC)

Hello again

Hello! Any news so far? Did you find anything interesting? I, sadly, didn't. Currently trying to find old screenshots, videos and concept art. Speaking of concept arts, they're actually not hard to find, but I'm, however, concerned that they are all jpegs, and I want to find png if possible (well, I'm also too lazy to upload them, that's also the reason). If I won't find thsm, I'll have to upload it as they are. Name Not Needed (talk) 12:18, 10 August 2022 (UTC)

Hello?

I didn't see you in a while. Are you still here? Any updates so far? Name Not Needed (talk) 11:25, 16 August 2022 (UTC)
