"Bildschirmtext"

Been skimming your notes and wanted to comment on at least one thing: In the article titled with "???", one above TOTAL! 7/98, "Bildschirmtext" is very unlikely to have anything to do with the BTX online service. Nintendo games with German translations, especially RPGs and the like, used to be advertised with "mit deutschem Bildschirmtext" (i.e. "with German screen text") back when only text-heavy games really got the translation treatment. See ex. here for ALttP's German cover. The likes of F-Zero or Mario Kart, i.e. games without much of a story, didn't get German translations in the SNES and N64 era; Mario games in general only started getting translations beginning with Mario 64, and Super Metroid also only had subtitles for the intro, IIRC. Only starting in the late 90s/early 2000s, most if not all Nintendo games were given German translations, but they still tended to state whatever languages they contained on the front cover (Metroid Prime is Multi-3, my copy says German screen text; F-Zero GP Legend lists every supported language).

Thus, that article mentioning they were soon getting German screen text likely just means they were soon getting a build of the game that features German text, vs whatever previous builds they could take a look at that only features English or Japanese text. --Xdaniel (talk) 09:01, 18 November 2015 (EST)
